Caleb Johnson testifies about his debut album – . “We really buckled down and busted our butts,” Johnson says. “We put our best feet forward and put out a record I’m extremely proud of.” Bolding so we remember 6 months from now when he disavows the album as not “really me.”“We were really trying to push it and not have every song be a riff-rock song,” he says. “Every song would incorporate those elements but show different flavors. And not just that, but show my talent as a writer, too.” Let Me In, which features the horn section from Sharon Jones and the Dap-Kings, probably pushes farthest. Songs like the album’s single Only One, as well as Testify, Let Me In and ballads Fighting Gravity and Change grew from “the bones of ideas that I came in with,” Johnson says. “Then the writers were incredible. They were some of the most talented people I’ve ever worked with. We really just bounced off each other and pulled these songs out. Most of these songs we wrote in half a day, because we were going so quickly.” – Read more at USA Today

It’s part of a platform-wide music-discovery initiative taking place on the subscription-based broadcast service this week. The women include major-label acts Leah Turner and Kelleigh Bannen, as well as singers who’ve achieved some industry renown, such as Pistol Annies member Angaleena Presley and Brandy Clark, who has penned hits for Miranda Lambert and the Band Perry. Small-label or independent acts such as Sunny Sweeney, Risa Binder and Allison Veltz will be played. Marks also has picked records by outside-the-box acts, namely former The Voice runner-up Dia Frampton and Swedish folk band First Aid Kit, who he feels fit the format. – Read more at USA Today
