“Idol” Contestant Anthony Fedorov Cast in Immersive Pop Nation, Featuring a Score by Late bare Songwriter – Anthony Fedorov, a contestant on “American Idol” who starred in the Off-Broadway revival of Rent, has been cast in Pop Nation, a theatrical social event that merges music, theatre and the nightclub experience. The musical features a score by late bare songwriter Damon Intrabartolo. Performances will begin Nov. 14, prior to an official opening Jan. 8, 2015, at Hudson. Morgans Hotel Group is collaborating with Pop Nation to bring theatre to the hotel experience, and the production will re-imagine the multi-level space beneath the hotel. – Read more at Playbill

‘X Factor’ winners Alex & Sierra aim to escape the here-gone cycle – Earlier this spring, Alex Kinsey and Sierra Deaton were trading stories about the two-week writing camp that yielded their debut album, “It’s About Us.” The late-hour bursts of boozy creativity and morning hikes under the Malibu sun are discussed, but words like “pressure,” “expectations” or “deadlines” don’t make it into conversation. “It was magic,” said Deaton, still beaming from the experience. “We imagined one thing, but this wasn’t what it was like.” – Read more at the Los Angeles Times

Country Star McCreery Wants Fan Birthday Gifts Sent To 12.14 Foundation – In an exclusive interview with The Newtown Bee, McCreery said he will be asking fans and followers to forgo sending him any kind of birthday gifts. Instead he’s asking that donations be made to The 12.14 Foundation, which was established in the wake of the Sandy Hook School tragedy and has enlisted the talented artist as its National Goodwill Ambassador. “It’s one of the things I’m proud to be part of, so I’m proud to talk about it and get as many folks supporting it as we can,” McCreery said. “Whenever we bring it up, people are always happy to get involved and to donate.” – Read more at the Newtown Bee

GOP US Rep. Ellmers blames Dems for gridlock in debating ex-entertainer Aiken for NC seat – Aiken, a Democrat, is a former special education teacher who rose to fame on “American Idol” and recently gave up a pop singing career. He said Ellmers’ unflinching backing of Republican congressional leaders is causing gridlock that prevents negotiated solutions to the country’s problems. He said he has been frustrated by partisanship displayed by both parties. House Democratic leader “Nancy Pelosi would not be my boss, unlike John Boehner would be your boss,” said Aiken, who has never held public office. Aiken responded that “the most embarrassing reality show right now is Congress.” – Read more at Tribtown.com

MSC OPAS presents: Phillip Phillips – Phillips said packing emotion into the songs was especially important during the making of “Behind the Light.” “It’s like you’re writing down something in your private journal and whatever and you just gave it away to a whole bunch of people to read or listen to,” Phillips said. “It’s scary because people are just going to — people automatically judge you — good or bad. It’s always scary, but the best thing is it’s no one else’s thoughts, it’s no one else’s emotions.” Phillips said he wrote or co-wrote all of the songs on his new album and that every song is one he can be proud of. In particular, he said the song “Trigger” evolved naturally into a meaningful piece during the recording process. – Read more at The Batt.com

Actress Katharine McPhee gets a second chance – “I’ve had an interesting year and a half,” she said with a small chuckle. “I made a lot of choices that are not reflective of who I am.” Getting cast in Scorpion “gave me the opportunity to focus on something good, and not on some poor choices I made in my life.” Scorpion executive producer Nick Santora said he was ecstatic when he learned that McPhee might be available: “We looked at a lot of actresses, and a lot of young actresses don’t want to play young single mums. “We knew Katharine was in demand. She just exudes accessibility. You feel you know this person.” – Read more at The Star

Zayn Malik’s Travel Bag Stolen By One Direction Fans – Two girls apparently stole/came across One Direction-er Zayn Malik’s travel bag at the airport, and instead of returning it, they posted the boring contents (clothes, a menu, some drawings) onto the Internet for all fans to see. But fans didn’t want to see it — early Tuesday morning #ZaynDeservesPrivacy was trending. It’s a bit unclear exactly what happened, but a South American fansite that spoke with the two girls reports they attempted to give the bag back, but it was too late. “They saw Lou Teasdale (the boys’ hair stylist) with some bags [at a Peru airport]. When she came out lots of people approached her — including bodyguards. One of them or Lou — I don’t remember — had that bag with them but dropped it in front of these girls. They took it and they said they tried to give it back but everyone was gone.” – Read more at Billboard
