Bo Bice is feeling better, musically and physically
The ‘American Idol’ runner-up has had intestinal surgery and is free to pursue Southern Rock on his new album after fulfilling post-‘Idol’ commitments.

For Bo Bice, a year late is better than not at all.

Last October, the 2005 “American Idol” runner-up abruptly canceled a concert appearance at the Cumming (Ga.) Country Fair because he needed emergency intestinal surgery. The proud Southern rocker, whose mom, Nancy, lives in Cumming, came back this year to make that show up even though he’s not technically on tour………

‹American Band has to drum up own success
FOX new music competition has winning elements, but seems set up to fail

“The Next Great American Band” hopes to win an audience by following the “American Idol” blueprint, featuring groups instead of individual singers. If it succeeds, however, it won’t be solely on its rival’s coattails. FOX is not inclined to take the risks necessary to make that happen…………..

The Next Great American BandTelevision

….Rzeznik himself wants to make sure viewers appreciate what each auditioning band brings to the table. “First thing I want to make clear is all these bands are real bands from their home towns. They’re all out doing gigs. They’re all out paying their dues already. They’re just looking for a break. I think it’s sort of like a modern twist on the battle of the bands and I think it’s a very democratic sort of process. I can say whatever I want about somebody and the public’s going to vote. The public’s going to decide what they want and it’s not a manufactured artist. It is what it is. They came as they were and got selected.”…..

Underwood: ‘I’m not stupid’

Singer Carrie Underwood faces an uphill battle to prove she isn’t a dumb blonde because people assume she lacks intelligence.

The American Idol star hates her reputation, based on the fact she’s a blonde country singer from Oklahoma.

She says, “It bugs me… People don’t give us Oklahomans credit. We don’t ride around in covered wagons. We have indoor plumbing. We’re smart, good people.

“I won’t say I’m business savvy, exactly, but I have common sense.”

Clay Aiken for Broadway

Clay Aiken is the latest Idol alum giving his regards to Broadway.

The singer’ and presumed shrubbery aficionado’ will join the cast of Monty Python’s Spamalot on Jan 18, playing the role of Sir Robin in the Tony Award-winning musical, directed by Mike Nichols.

“I really couldn’t have asked for a more wonderful group of people to work with, ” Aiken said in a statement.

“Let’s not lie, the chance to work with legendary creative minds like Mike Nichols and Eric Idle is, on its own, a reason to jump at this opportunity.”…….

Defend Its Existence

Kelly Clarkson first album, 2003 Thankful, was pretty easy to ignore despite its double platinum certification. At that point she was just another apple-cheeked pop tart, some easily dismissable reality TV pseudo-star. But then 2004 Breakway came out, and Clarkson transgressed any limitations put on that pop persona.

Breakaway was and is a phenomenal album that earned Clarkson two Grammys, five top-10 singles and, most tellingly, a sincere cover nod from vegan punk king Ted Leo. This was the time Kelly needed no defense, even to us non-American Idol fans. World tours, TRL hits, CDs flying off the shelves and fawning reviews and interviews that justified even that From Justin to Kelly embarrassment.

But Clarkson come under hard times……….

Nickelback’s ‘Reasons’ joins rare 6M sales club

The members of Nickelback are music’s latest 6-million-seller men. But the way things are going, there may not be many more.
The Canadian rockers’ All the Right Reasons album, which was released in October 2005, crossed the 6 million sales mark last week. It’s the only album released that year or since to reach that level; only one album from 2004 and two from 2003 have hit 6 million. Just 15 new albums released since 2000 have sold more than Nickelback, most from the early years when album sales were far healthier………

…….. A sound for the times. Nickelback’s classic formula of rock rhythms with catchy choruses and guttural vocals defines what a lot of casual music fans think of as rock ‘n’ roll. The recipe works so well that American Idol’s Chris Daughtry has scored three big hits with Nickelback sound-alikes…
