Status of the Competitive Reality Shows we Live Blog

We live blog many shows here at mjsbigblog. And usually the schedule is pretty full! But with the coronavirus concerns shutting down television and movie studios across the country, our typical schedule will be interrupted. So, I thought it would be a good idea to put together a list of  every show: Has the series finished taping? If not, will the show air? When can we expect an unfinished season to go off the air? There are seasons that are all finished filming. YAY! Some series got part way through a season before halting production. And some seasons never got started.

American Idol – Top 20 and Finals will be postponed

American Idol halted production earlier this week. The Top 20 were in Los Angeles waiting to rehearse before taping the semifinals. ABC filmed shows through the Hollywood Round and Hawaii Showcase and Green Mile. Sunday March 29 would be the last day of new shows, unless ABC decides to recut shows to extend the number of new episodes. – UPDATE: Hollywood Showcase and Green Mile WILL be split into two episodes. Green mile will air on Monday March 30. Nevertheless, the Top 20 semifinals and live coast-t0-coast finals are postponed.

The Voice – 3 week Live Finals will be probably be postponed

The Voice has filmed all episodes through the Knockouts. NBC announced last fall that the live shows would only run 3 weeks. That turned out to be a fortuitous decision for the network. The Voice will be able to air new episodes through the end of April. NBC hasn’t officially canceled the live finals. But despite John Legend’s wishful thinking, the live finals will likely be postponed.

The Masked Singer – Production Finished! Season will air complete

FOX finished production on The Masked Singer season 3. The entire season will air through May

The Voice UK – Two week live Semifinals and Finals Postponed

Enjoy The Voice UK episode airing on ITV this Saturday (March 21). ITV filmed shows through the Knockouts, but have postponed the live semifinals and finals. A spokesperson for the network said that the March 28 and April 4th episodes will now be replaced by “bespoke Voice specials.”

Britain’s Got Talent – Auditions will begin airing. Live Shows up in the air

Remarkably, ITV have not made final decision on BGT. ITV director of television Kevin Lygo said: “We are…working with our production colleagues to see how we can make the “BGT” live shows work in an ever-changing situation and we will update on this in due course.” The audition shows will begin airing as planned in mid-April

Eurovision Song Contest 2020 – Canceled

With artists from all over Europe scheduled to travel to Rotterdam on May 16 for the continent’s biggest and longest running talent show, there was no option but to cancel the show altogether

Survivor – Current season Production Finished! Live Finale?

The current season of Survivor was filmed months ago. CBS will be able to air the entire season. However, the winner of the show is revealed on a live finale in May. CBS has some decisions to make. Also, the fall 2020 and spring 2021 seasons were getting ready to film when CBS postponed both. The next two seasons air dates could also be postponed.

America’s Got Talent – Audition Episodes Mostly Done Filming – Judge Cuts & Live Shows Up in the Air

First, America’s Got Talent planned to film without a studio audience. Then, judge Heidi Klum came down with flu-like symptoms. And with other TV productions shutting down, so did AGT. The show’s live shows begin mid-summer, typically. With about half of the season filmed, I expect the show will premiere and hope for the best.

The Bachelorette – Production halted before it began. Entire season postponed.

The Bachelorette production was halted the morning it was set to begin. The entire season is postponed. However, the music themed Bachelor spinoff Listen to Your Heart, is filmed and ready to premiere on April 13.

Songland  – Still Set to Premiere in April 13

The second season of the NBC songwriting competition is still on track to premiere on April 13. The series began filming its 10 episode season earlier this year, it’s a good bet that every show is in the can.

So You Think You Can Dance – Entire Season postponed

It took forever for FOX to renew the long running dance competition. In person auditions were set to take place in Los Angeles, New York and Miami this month. Originally, productions planned to film on a closed set, but then canceled altogether. SYTYCD didn’t even have a premiere date. My guess? See you next summer, hopefully.

World of Dance – Production finished! Entire season will air this summer.

A bright spot! The Jennifer Lopez helmed dance competition does not air live shows. Production managed to finish the season just under the wire. NBC hasn’t announced a premiere date, but wait for it, it’s coming soon

The Amazing Race 33 – Production halted

Season 33 production halted after filming a handful of episodes in Europe. Correction: Season 32 production is complete, no ETA on when it will premiere.

Academy of Country Music Awards, Billboard Music Awards, iHeartMedia awards are all postponed.
