HDD – Album Sales Prediction : Aug 25-31

With Monday being a holiday, we will get the entire HDD report today. Their “weakend” report has Ariana Grande topping the chart. This will be her second chart topper in a year. Her previous album debuted the week of September 2nd (this one was released August 25th) and sold 138K. The predictions for her newest album is 150-170K. Some expected her to sell more this time around since she is all over the singles charts (3 top 10 singles so far), but many of these female pop stars tend to sell a lot of singles and not many albums. Still 150-170K is a very good start.

Way, way, way back in second (so far back we may need to use a spotting scope) is Brad Paisley. What happened to the guy who sells out concerts on his near perma-tours? Interstingly, this will be his 9th top 10 album, but he’s never topped the BB200 chart. Obviously, he’s topped the Country album chart and will do so again this week. His previous album, “Wheelhouse” was released in 2013, sold 100K and ended up in the same spot.

“Guardians of the Galaxy” topped the box-office this weekend (and became the summer’s biggest hit – in a pretty dismal year) and it looks like the Soundtrack is proving it has legs too. The “Awesome Mix” is destined for third on the charts. Kem (R&B) is debuting in fourth, Sam Smith is 5th (looks like he was blocked from hitting the top of the Hot 100 this time around), Whiz Khalifa’s (last week’s number 1) is 6th this week, Now 51 (featuring a track that features X-Factorer Cher Lloyd) is 7th, Avenged Sevenfold (Rock) is 8th, Frozen Soundtrack (ever-present) is 9th and the new One Directioners 5 Seconds to Summer round out the top 10.
