The New York Post reports that an American Idol 10 joke auditioner has been charged with attempted rape.
Yoji “Pop” Asano — who called himself the “Japanese King of Pop” after his hero, Michael Jackson — sexually assaulted a female friend in the bedroom of her Stuyvesant Town apartment last August, authorities charge.
The “Idol” wannabe allegedly tossed the woman onto the bed, pinned her down with one arm and tried to rape her. When she pleaded with him to stop because he was “hurting her,” he got cold feet, jumped off her and went into the kitchen for a glass of wine, sources said.
Asano was arrested last week and charged with attempted rape and attempted sexual abuse. He has a court appearance Tuesday.
I had to look this guy up, because I did not remember him at all, despite his New York City audition supposedly going “viral” according to the Post.
Once I re-watched the clip, I had a vague recollection of an annoying and unfunny joke auditioner who butchered Miley Cyrus’ “Party In The USA” accompanied by bizarre Michael Jackson dance moves. It’s hard to believe it was serious.
In any case, I actually took a minute to highlight some of his pre-Idol music (mostly MJ impersonation stuff) in a separate post, so maybe he did cause a stir.
