Christina Grimmie’s Fellow Reality Stars Mourn her Death

On Friday night, Youtube and The Voice star Christina Grimmie was shot dead after a concert performance in Orlando Florida. Fans of competition reality shows know that alums bond like family. Singers from across all seasons and even across competing shows create special relationships born of a shared experience.

In Christina’s case, she toured with the season 5 and 6 contestants two summers ago. She knew singers from American Idol as well. She tagged along on the season 11 summer tour to host a series of backstage videos, which is actually the first I’d heard of her before she auditioned for The Voice. Both Kris Allen and Nick Fradianii played gigs with the late singer. Nick, in fact, shared the stage with Christina on a few weeks ago at the Tube-a-thon event for charity.

The Voice coaches work closely with the contestants and have a special relationship with the singers. Christina was a member of Team Adam Levine, when she competed on season 6 and finished in 3rd place. He posted a photo and message on Instagram when the news first broke that she had been shot, but he has not reacted to her death. He must be devastated. After Christina’s death was confirmed, a mysterious tweet appeared on her account that simply said “The End.” ETA: It’s gone now. Apparently her account had been hacked.

“Behati and I are absolutely devastated and heartbroken by Christina Grimmie’s tragic death,” Our hearts go out to her family. Christina was a natural, a gifted talent that comes along so rarely. She was taken from us too soon. This is yet another senseless act of extreme violence. I am left stunned and confused how these things can conceivably continue to happen in our world.”
