Big Brother 17 Episode 39 Recap and Live Blog

The penultimate episode of Big Brother 17 airs tonight on CBS. Read a live recap here.

John was evicted at the last eviction episode, which means Vanessa, Steve, and Liz are this season’s Final 3. They will compete in an arduous endurance challenge in Part 1 of the last HoH competition of the summer. But before we see how the competition plays out, tonight’s episode will feature a look back on the season. We will revisit memorable moments from the past three months, as well as some never before seen clips.

After John’s eviction, Vanessa, Steve, and Liz open a bottle of champagne to celebrate making it to the Final 3. Afterwards, Vanessa secures a Final 2 deal with both Liz and Steve. Liz plans to take Vanessa to the end if she wins and Vanessa plans to take her too if she wins. Steve asks Vanessa if she has a deal with Liz, and Vanessa lies and says she has never made a deal with her. Vanessa is trying to cover her bases, but Steve will evict Vanessa and take Liz to the Final 2 if he wins Final HoH.

Afterwards, the Final 3 have dinner and begin to reminisce about the season. The first flashback we see is of the twin twist. Liz admits that she believes the twin twist would have gone unnoticed longer if Da’Vonne and Jason didn’t realize it so quickly. We next see the scene of Da’Vonne and Jason noticing how Liz looks different on various days and then gossiping about it to the other HouseGuests.

Next is a flashback of Vanessa’s many confrontations throughout the summer. First we see Vanessa confront Austin about throwing the Veto competition. The next scene is when she confronts Jeff to expose all his lies so she has a reason to backdoor him. The third scene is her yelling at Audrey after Audrey called her out of setting up Jeff to backdoor him. The next scene is her yelling at Clay and Shelli after the showmance said they feel like they were being targeted for Vanessa’s move to backdoor Jason, but Vanessa asserts it was a group decision. The next is her yelling at James after she felt insulted when he told her she was playing the game too hard.

We next see flashbacks of the Liztin showmance. First we see Liz not being attracted to Austin at all in the beginning of the summer, but eventually falling for him after getting to know him better. We also see Zingbot reminding Liz that Austin already had a girlfriend before entering the Big Brother house. However, the next scene is when Austin and Liz agree to officially be boyfriend and girlfriend.

Even though they were not a showmance, we next see various scenes of James’ unrequited crush on Meg. He liked her, but she never saw him as more than a friend. The next is a segment of the nerdmance between John and Steve. They both were awkward and geeky, and were able to relate to one another and form a friendship. However, based on some of John’s post-eviction interviews, John never seemed to have been as close to Steve as this segment suggests.

Last of the duos is the Clelli showmance. The scene when they first meet is shown, as well as their first kiss. However, the segment gets more serious as their last day in the house together is shown, which includes Clay and James’ heated argument that occurred hours before Clay’s eviction.

The Final 3 stand in front of the memory wall and point out how Big Brother brings together people from different walks of life. They talk about Becky, and we see a flashback of her telling the story of when she got hit in the face by a train. Liz also talks about how Clay mumbled a lot and was sometimes hard to understand, which leads to a segment of Clay mumbling at various times. Next they discuss Audrey and how she is the first transgender HouseGuest to be on Big Brother. We see a flashback of when she explains her story to Steve. Liz also notes all the chaos Audrey caused in the house due to her overplaying and constant paranoia. Next is a flashback of when Da’Vonne brought in a large group of people into the have-not room to call out Audrey and her lies. Da’Vonne, Jason, and Vanessa yelled at Audrey as Clay, Shelli, Jeff, Meg, and James watched in awkward silence.

The next segment is of James’ various scare pranks he pulled on people throughout the summer, especially on Julia. The next is a segment of the Whackstreet Boys, the boy band that included John, Jason, and Julia/Liz. The fun and happy segments end as we next see various clips of the HouseGuests venting their frustrations in the diary room. We see several HouseGuests breaking down in tears due to the pressures of the house, including Audrey, Da’Vonne, Shelli, Clay, Jace, Jason, Meg, Liz, Julia, Steve, and Vanessa. However, there is a funny clip of Becky saying “Can we have a two for one deal and get rid of both Jace and Audrey?” But besides that, it’s a segment of the HouseGuests being either angry or crestfallen inside the diary room.

Another Liztin clip is shown, but it’s one that didn’t make the show. Liz and Austin get into a fight about Liz complaining about the chicken Austin prepared for dinner. This occurred days before Austin was blindsided. Liz is tired of eating chicken, and Austin gets offended by this. He calls Liz a bitch and throws food at her.  This fight got a bit more heated than what was shown, but it did last for a long while.

Finally, we see Vanessa, Steve, and Liz begin Part 1 of the Final HoH competition. Steve has been waiting for this moment for a long time and wants to secure his spot in the Final 2. Liz wants to win to get her and Vanessa to the Final 2. Vanessa is confident that Steve and Liz would both take her to Final 2, but she still wants to win this competition herself.

And that wraps up tonight’s episode of Big Brother 17! This was the last episode before the season finale. Who will win the game and who will be voted America’s favorite player?  Thanks for reading and come back Wednesday for the 90 minute finale of Big Brother 17!
