America’s Got Talent 2021: World Taekwondo Demonstration Team Put on a Golden Buzzer Worthy Show

America’s Got Talent aired for only an hour due to the Olympic trials this week (read recap). But nevertheless, host Terry Crews awarded his Golden Buzzer to an amazing Olympics-worthy group, featuring an incredible martial arts demonstration. With members who hail from around the world, including South Korea and America, World Taekwondo Demonstration Team were invited to perform at the Olympics. Sadly, they could not make the trip due to COVID-19 restrictions.

Simon Cowell joked that they chose AGT over the Olympics. The team performed a series of stunts that a TV screen could not do justice, as it was full of impressive jumps and board breaking. Group members displayed flexibility and intensity in a tightly choreographed and in-sync routine. They kept upping the ante with higher and higher jumps with the final jump being nearly two stories high.

The judges gave the act a standing ovation

Howie Mandel exclaimed, “that was one of the favorite things I’ve ever seen” adding that the “discipline involved, the message you have. Amazing.” Simon joked, “yeah, that was alright,” but then added that it was one of the “most extraordinary” things he has seen over the years on America’s Got Talent. An impressed Heidi Klum said that the act gave her “goosebumps.” Sofia Vergara called the act “perfection.”

When Simon said, “now we have to vote,” Terry Crews interrupted, exclaiming, “No, we don’t!” He added, “I have never seen anything like this in my life.” He said, “You weren’t able to make it to the Olympics to get a gold medal, but I’m going to give you something golden right now.” He then pressed the coveted Golden Buzzer that sends acts straight to the Quarterfinals.

This group is for sure one of the more talented variety acts this season. It will be interesting to see what they do next and if they can keep America interested in their act, which plays better in person than on television. They joined a talented night of acts that included professional rock singer Storm Large, comedian Kabir Singh, singing groups CZN and T.3, and fear-inducing magician Klek Entos. T.3 was the standout of the night for me. Although, I enjoyed this group as well as Storm.
