American Idol’s David Cook Big Slick Celebrity Weekend (VIDEO)

American Idol Season 7 winner David Cook, once again took part in the Big Slick Celebrity Weekend (June 23-24) in his hometown, Kansas City, Missouri. Event hosts included Paul Rudd, Jason Sudeikis, Eric Stonestreet, Rob Riggle and David Koechner plus many more hometown stars.

Since 2010, Big Slick Celebrity Weekend event has raised more than $4.5 million for the Cancer Center at Children’s Mercy in Kansas City, helping to pay for expansions to provide better stays for patients and families, for groundbreaking research and for the purchase of advanced medical equipment.

The festivities included a 4 inning slow-pitch softball game Friday afternoon (June 23) at Kauffman Stadium. And just as it did last year, a bench clearing brawl broke out on the field!

The drama occurred between Will Forte and Jake Tapper, who started a “fight” on third base. David Cook ran over to help–and that’s when the benches cleared. Apparently, there was a “brawl” last year too. It appears to have turned into a thing. Check out video at MLB.com and The Kansas City Star. And for added chuckles, David briefly wore a Batman mask (replacing the “Star Wars” Chewbacca mask he wore last year).

Also in on the fun were Sarah Chalke, Johnny Knoxville and Weird Al Yankovic. Last year, Big Slick Celebrity Weekend raised a record $1.3 million . This year brought in even more: $1.75 million, said organizers at the extravaganza’s star-studded final event Saturday night at the Arvest Bank Theatre at the Midland.

Speaking of Saturday night’s big event–it featured a silent auction and performance from David. Check the singer out, covering Bon Jovi’s “Living on a Prayer”–the tune he performed when he auditioned in front of the American Idol judges in the summer of 2007. TEN YEARS AGO.

Recently, David released a new song “Gimme Heartbreak, the first single off of his upcoming EP, which can be pre-ordered now at PledgeMusic. Along with new music, David will be heading out on the road, beginning June 29 in Cincinnati Ohio.
