David Cook’s new single “Gimme Heartbreak” will be available everywhere tomorrow. But today, Yahoo music has a full stream available for your listening pleasure.
Currently, the American Idol season 7 winner is working with hi longtime engineer and collaborator Andy Skib on a new EP due out this fall via his label Analog Heart Music via INgrooves.
“Musically, it’s been extremely different,” David shared with Yahoo music regarding the song’s harder edge. Recent Nine Inch Nails, Mutemath, Massive Attack, and Norwegian indie-pop singer Aurora are artists that David cited as major influences on the upcoming EP’s “dark and edgy and moody” sound.
“Especially in the last couple of years, like anybody who listens to music, I don’t just like one thing — so I’ve really tried to dive in headfirst to the more dark, cinematic stuff,” David said. “I feel like there’s… I don’t want to say ‘heavy-handed,’ but there’s a medium-handed influence on the new stuff, with that kind of vibe.”
Along with new music, David will be heading out on the road, beginning June 29 in Cincinnati Ohio. Check the full schedule of dates at the singer’s official website. And this weekend, David will be back on his home turf, Kansas City Missouri, for the Big Slick Celebrity Weekend to benefit weekend to benefit Children’s Mercy hospital.
