Emily Piriz is Eliminated

I was sure MK Nobilette was going home, but I can’t say that I’m mad it was Emily Piriz instead. She was fodder from the get go. I mean, I had to look up her performance last week. It was “Glitter in the Air” by Pink and was actually pretty solid. It saved her from the bottom 3, but this singer really doesn’t make a lasting impression. That mess of a Jlo cover did her right in. If it wasn’t this week, she probably would have been eliminated next. If MK doesn’t step up her game, she’s going to be gone soon too.

I hate to see Jena Irene floundering in the competition. She’s a unique singer and a solid songwriter. I hope she picks a decent song next week and delivers it with confidence. The theme is “Songs from the Cinema.” Ohhh. Maybe she could sit at the piano and sing Karen O’s “Moon Song” from Her. Yes?

Gotta love Randy Jackson telling Harry that he was too hard on the kids. Mr. “IN IT TO WIN IT” has nothing to say, with his lazy cliches. Harry may rub the wrong way sometimes, but I do think he’s trying. There was so much complaining (including from me) when the judges were pulling their punches. I didn’t agree with all of the critiques last night, but the remarks were ALL thoughtful, and designed to help the kids grow. I have no issues with Harry or Keith. Jlo isn’t on their level as far as being able to pick apart a performance is concerned, but she could be worse.

So, I guess this year’s boot song has the Top 13 recording their own. The girls, at least, are singing Kelly Clarkson’s “Breakaway.” But something tells me the guys will sing a tune from a male winner. I’ll be taking bets on that.

We’re live blogging the American Idol XIII Top 12 Results RIGHT HERE. Phillip Phillips debuts his new single, “Raging Fire.” Irish band, Kodaline performs.

OMG THE KIDS ARE SINGING HOME IN THIS VIDEO!!! I made a joke on twitter that The Top 12 would reinterpret “Home” Ha ha. It’s actually happening! Sort of. That’s 5 times platinum “Home”! Congrats Phillip.

Over 70 million votes came in last night. Jlo is wearing magenta hot pants. Hm. The judges are eating gummi bears. Harry threw the entire bowl out into the audience.

Recap time:  Jess is determined to work on her performances. The kids head out to eat dinner. Caleb was having so much fun last night, he couldn’t help but get a little crazy with Rickey. Majesty complains that she has no idea when it’s ok to be sharp. Dexter believes Harry tells people what they need to hear. Ben says the only thing that matters is doing your very best.

Randy says the kids didn’t live up to their usual great performances, but maybe Harry was being a little hard on them. Harry bristles a bit. He believes the kids are talented! But he wasn’t hired as a mentor, but as a judge. He’s going to give the kids constructive critiques. He THINKS about the things he says! He thinks it’s the best group of talent since the first year. But he JUST didn’t see it last night. They have to treat that stage like it’s a CHURCH. Harry says he’s a judge. He can’t fraternize with them. PREACH. Check out Harry’s passionate defense below:

Harry Defends His Judging Style – American Idol 13 by IdolxMuzic

Next, Drew Brees from the Saints has a special message for Harry. He urges him to be more positive, and maybe more encouraging. He’s Harry’s hero! Harry reminds the kids that if Drew throws a bad pass, his coach will call him out.

Honestly, I see nothing wrong with Harry’s critiques. There was a lot of harsh words last night, but the performances mostly sucked.

Emily Piriz, Sam Woolf, Jessica Meuse and Ben Briley take the stage. There are  NO after the fact, Jimmy Iovine style,  critiques from Randy Jackson this week. Just recap from last night and comments from the contestants.

Keith talks about his childhood in Australia. Guess all of the judges will weigh in on their Wonder Years.

It’s time for Phillip Phillips! His single “Home” became an anthem for an ENTIRE NATION. We see Phillip hard at work in the studio. He’s nervous to be back at Idol “It’s like a blind date, but you know who it is,” he says.

Here he is debuting his BRAND NEW SINGLE “Raging Fire.”  A really great performance from the season 11 winner. I wasn’t a fan of his at the time, but he basically showed those kids how it’s done.  Phillip says playing in Brazil with John Mayer and Bruce Springsteen was a trip.

Back from commercial, Harry talks about growing up playing music in New Orleans.

Jena Irene, Dexter Roberts, Majesty Rose and Alex Preston are next. Dexter swears Randy helped him a lot. He swears it’s true. Jena swears Randy helped her as well.  Laying it on a little thick, aren’t we? Jena feels her performance went really well. Alex says he LIKES to put his own little twist on songs. Randy tells Majesty her performance could be a moment. Sads, it wasn’t.  We see Majesty off stage, near tears, after her performance.

Dexter is safe! Majesty is so nervous, she covers her face with her hands. But she’s safe.  Ryan tells Alex to head for the lounge, but the poor kid looks confused. He IS safe. Jena is in the bottom 3.

Randy introduces Irish band Kodaline. They sing “All I Want.”  Oy. These vocals are really off key.  Cut to Harry, who has a total “WTF?” look on his face. Cut back to him and he’s chatting with Jlo. Only Keith seems really into it.

Kodaline – All I Want – American Idol 13 by IdolxMuzic

Jlo reminisces about loving “Saturday In the Park” when she was little.

Malaya Watson, MK Nobilette, CJ Harris and Caleb Johnson are next. MK swears she wants to be here. She’s going to work her ass off to be in the competition. Caleb and CJ are safe. All female bottom 3, people.  And of course. MK is in the bottom 3. Malaya is safe.

Here we go with the final results. Jena is safe. GOOD. Ohhh. MK is safe! Can’t say I’m mad. Emily Piriz will sing for her life! She sings “Stars” by Grace Potter as her Save Me song. Oy. So off pitch. She’s the fodderiest fodder that ever foddered. The judges can pretend to chat amongst themselves all they want, but she’s toast. And she should be.  Aw. Dad looks like he’s going to burst into tears.

Oh.  Jlo looks upset. I bet she wants to save the girl who covered her song. NO NO NO. Please No.  It’s not unanimous, says Jlo. Harry delivers the bad news again this week. Emily won’t be saved. Emily Piriz is eliminated. A recording of Emily singing her version of Kelly Clarkson’s “Breakaway” plays during her goodbye video.
