American Idol: Three Alums Return to Perform on Top 20 for Season 20

Phillip Phillips, Alejandro Aranda, Chayce Beckham American Idol

On Monday’s American Idol Top 24 part 2 episode (April 11), host Ryan Seacrest closed the show with a tease. American Idol alums would appear on Sunday’s (April 17) Top 20 reveal show.

Now, People magazine reveals that Phillip Phillip, Alejandro Aranda aka Scarypoolparty and Chayce Beckham will come back to perform on the Idol stage.

Phillip is celebrating the 10 year anniversary of his American Idol win on season 11 in 2010. Scarypoolparty finished season 17 in 2019 in 2nd place, and Chayce Beckham is the reigning Idol champ.

On Sunday, four singers will be eliminated from the Top 24. According to People, 20 singers will be revealed on Sunday, and will each perform before the judges. Viewers at home will vote once again to determine who makes it to the next round. The Top 14 will then be revealed LIVE on Monday April 18.

One Top 24 contestant has already left the competition

Actually, one singer, Kenedi Anderson, who performed as part of the 2nd night of performances has already self-evicted. “For personal reasons, I’m unable to continue on American Idol. This has been one of the hardest decisions I’ve ever had to make, but I know it’s necessary,” Kenedi wrote after Ryan announced on the show that she will no longer compete on Idol. “I’m so grateful to American Idol, the judges, the producers, the amazing contestants, and all the fans who have supported me.”

“Thank you for giving me such an amazing opportunity to share my voice, chase my dreams, feel so much joy and happiness doing what I love, and make lifelong friends along the way,” she said.

“We are disappointed to see Kenedi leave, but we are excited to watch this celebratory 20th season unfold with the incredible talent vying to be the next American Idol,” producer Freemantle Media told people in a statement.

Are fans to assume that Kenedi’s exit will count as one of the two eliminated contestants from night two leaving the competition?  Two singers from night one will join them.

UPDATE: According to Yahoo MusicYahoo Music, Kenedi’s exit will count as one of Monday’s night’s eliminated contestants. Only one additional singer will leave the competition, joining two from Sunday’s part 1 episode.

Chayce recently released his first post American Idol single, “Tell Me Twice.” It’s the first single from his debut EP, Doin’ it Right, coming out on April 15. Phillip is also set to release a new single on that day.
