FINALLY American Idol is making iTunes studio versions of contestant performances available for download. Each of the Top 5 contestants chose ONE of their two song choices for the week to record. Five songs are available for download now.
The themes this week are the Sia Song Book and Classic Rock. Sia and E Street Band member, Steven Van Zandt mentored the contestants, respectively.
A word about the Classic Rock theme. AMERICAN SONGS ONLY were available to perform. In other words: No Beatles, no Stones, no Who, no Queen NO British Invasion.
Performing along with the Top 5 tomorrow will be season 7 winner, David Cook, set to sing “Heartbeat” from his Digital Vein album, season 5 runner-up, Katharine McPhee reprising her iconic performance of “Over the Rainbow” and Sia will perform her latest single, “Cheap Thrills.”
Watch this space. Hopefully we’ll get the contestants’ second song choices soon.

Dalton Rapattoni – God Only Knows by The Beach Boys – Dalton’s essential sweetness is perfect for this song. He’ll have no trouble connecting, he’s just got to stay on pitch!
La’Porsha Renae – Elastic Heart by Sia – She’ll kill it like she kills everything. La’Porsha is a damn song murderer, in the best possible way.
MacKenzie Bourg – I Want You To Want Me by Cheap Trick – I bet the boys drew straws on who was going to be stuck singing Cheap Trick. That was guaranteed considering in-house mentor, Scott Borchetta recently signed the group to Big Machine Records. His acoustic rendition is kind of a snooze.
Sonika Vaid – Loved Me Back to Life by Sia – Swan song.
Trent Harmon – Sharp Dressed Man by ZZ Top – Hm. I’m not feeling this. It’s hard to sing this song without it seeming cheesy. Not the time for throwaway songs, people!
Here are the remaining choices via TV Line
MacKenzie Bourg — Titanium by Sia
Trent Harmon — Chandelier by Sia
Dalton Rapattoni — Bird Set Free by Sia
La’Porsha Renae — Wanted Dead or Alive by Bon Jovi
Sonika Vaid — Because the Night by Patti Smith Group (Bruce Springsteen)
