American Idol: Hunter Metts Family Surprises Him at Disney World (Video)

American Idol 2021 We're Going to Disney World

American Idol had the week off for ABC’s 2021 Oscar telecast. In the meantime, The Top 9 contestants headed to Disney World last week to film video packages and B roll for Sunday May 2’s Disney night.

So far from photos, fans have learned that actor John Stamos mentored the contestants. But now, video has surfaced of fan favorite contestant Hunter Metts family surprising him at the park. The footage comes at the very end of a tour conducted by a Disney blogger. He appears to stumble upon the American Idol production, which takes place outside at the park. He appeared to need bystanders to tell him exactly what was going on!

In the clip, several people are waiting, holding balloons and signs. Then Hunter appears. SURPRISE. I bet he cried. The video guide describes the scene thusly, “…his name is Hunter Metts, his family was there to surprise him. And boy, was he surprised…”

It’s likely that production brought in family and/or friends for all the Top 9. With COVID production protocols in place, there has been very little in-person interaction between the contestants and their families. Bringing loved ones to Disney World for a big surprise should offer at least a few heartwarming moments.

Thanks to @BignLiddle for the tip.

Additionally, during last night’s Oscar telecast, ABC ran a 30 second ad promoting the May 2 Disney Night (Check out song suggestions HERE.) The clip features a Ryan Seacrest voice over and shots of the Top 9 at Disney World.

As a reminder, it will be a Top 10 that competes on Sunday’s show. The winner of last week’s Comeback episode, which featured 10 Top 20 finalists from last year will be announced before the singing begins. Voting for the 10 season 18 contestants, which included runner-up Arthur Gunn, concluded this morning (April 26).
