American Idol 2020 alum Kat & Alex announce Split, both musically and romantically
American Idol alums Kat & Alex, a country music duo, have announced they are divorcing as both a married couple and a musical duo.
The two auditioned for American Idol in 2020 singing “Shallow” by Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper as a duet. But on American Idol, artists can only compete as solos. Alex called himself”Space Cowboy” which Luke Bryan advised he ditch. (He did.).
After the couple advanced to Hollywood, the inevitable split came at the duets round when Kat advanced, and Alex did not. Kat did not advance past the final solo round.
Regardless, after American Idol, the two landed a publishing deal and released an EP. They got engaged later that year and then tied the knot in January 2021. It’s worth noting that at the time Kat & Alex auditioned for Idol in 2020, Kat was only 19 and Alex was 26.
The singers announced their split on social media, stressing there are no hard feeling and encouraging fans to follow them both as solo acts.

“As we are writing this, our hearts are heavy to have to make this announcement,” they wrote. “After 4 years of love and music, we have mutually decided to party ways both musically and romantically. We are so incredibly grateful for the time God has given us together with not only each other, but with y’all.”
The message continued: “Life isn’t always a perfectly straight road, and we are learning every day how to navigate it. We hold nothing but love for each other in our hearts and ask only for your support and understanding throughout this process.”
Please follow them both as solo artists, they ask. “Although we will not be doing music together as Kat & Alex, we will still be pursuing our dreams individually as Kat Luna and Alex Georgia. It would mean the world to us to have your continued support on our individual journeys. We love y’all so much. K&A.”
