  1. Thanks! Do you have any idea when all the videos will be back up on AOL?

  2. Do you have any idea when all the videos will be back up on AOL?

    I’ll try to find out.

  3. Loved the AOL sessions vid of Holiday. Just wow! It was so awesome to hear Cry Baby too! All the vids are awesome. Thanks mj. :)

  4. I love little Allison and she was my #2 pick on Idol. She’s so bubbley but I wish they would get someone to help her on her stage presence a little so she isn’t all over the place. I’ll buy her CD and I loved Holiday…now that is ROCK! Love her Band!

  5. Oh I totally forgot about the AOL sessions that artists do, that’s awesome! Have Kris or Adam had any yet?

  6. Wow, I didn’t think anything could top Don’t Waste the Pretty but Trouble Is is incredible. This girl is channeling Janis Joplin. Not only the vocals but even her movements. Allison is a star. I’m not sure anything will every top this last season’s Idol for talent.

  7. Evidently it’s ok to post these now?

Er, I’m guess they’ll be taken down soon. lol.

  8. Yeah, I don’t think those were supposed to be posted. I wish the Memphis videos had better audio quality, it’s really hard to hear her voice in those, but it’s better than nothing and HOLY micro mini skirt Allison!

  9. Peeps, her CD is incredible. I should send her a check, because paying $12 for the deluxe version was a steal.

  10. Oh my gosh….her performance was terrible. Her outfit didn’t do anything for her….she was totally frenetic…the sound sucked. Talk about needing to be reigned in. At least her voice still sounds good.

  11. Don’t waste the pretty from last night:

That microphone stand is getting some love…in a good way.

Peeps, her CD is incredible. I should send her a check, because paying $12 for the deluxe version was a steal

I don’t remember the last time I actually bought an album. I think it was David Cook’s last year but I like this one even better.

Oh my gosh’ ¦.her performance was terrible.

Which one? The sound issues are pretty much due to the youtube video. The sound IS terrible but that’s really not her fault. She’s always been kind of frenetic on stage though.

  12. Folks, she’ll continue to work on and improve her stage presence. The voice is a God-given gift.

And, the sound on the Jingle Jam clips is so bad it’s painful to listen.

    Still, much appreciated.

  13. The AOL sessions stuff just reinforces my opinion that she should have gone more towards mainstream rock with occasional Top 40 singles, like Shinedown. There is a major void in rock for female vocal talent.

  14. That performance of “Trouble Is” is stunning. It made me teary. I love the way she is starting to open up these songs and find the possibilities in them. Thank you, Allison.

  15. I’m in Alli heaven!! I love her stage presence, it’s unique just like her!!! keep rockin’, Alli!

  16. My God @ Trouble Is. This girl just HAS to blow up. She has too. I will be depressed if she doesn’t.

  17. Trouble is really is incredible. She turned a pop ballad into a rock power ballad just with her vocals. The girl can sing anything, but clearly rock is where her heart is.

  18. The AOL sessions stuff just reinforces my opinion that she should have gone more towards mainstream rock with occasional Top 40 singles, like Shinedown. There is a major void in rock for female vocal talent.

ITA — thought it before and the AOL sessions just prove that is the right direction.

Prob requires more imagination than 19 has. LOL I am learning that it is really impossible to underestimate had formulaic 19 is.

  19. Oh my f***ing god. When I first heard the album version of Trouble Is, I said I’d died and gone to heaven. I was wrong. NOW I have. I keep telling people that song is the grand slam home run.

And I think the band sounded better on it than on Holiday or EVTOY. Some nice embellishment choices they all made, every one of them.

  20. Despite the awful sound quality, I could tell that the arrangement for Don’t Waste The Pretty is very good. Again, some nice choices by the band. I want good recordings!!

jordison: Folks, she’ll continue to work on and improve her stage presence.

Yes, she will. The incredible thing is that she doesn’t even need to.

  21. John, didn’t I tell you that Trouble is was amazing? Was I lying? Yeah, Trouble is is my favorite performance from the AOL sessions. El viernes te olvido yo is really good too, much better than FIBOU. I think it’s official, that EVTOY kicks FIBOU’s ass in any shape or form. The different lyrics make the song better and I think Allison feels it that way too. She sings EVTOY with a lot more gusto.

  22. Yes, you told me. No, you weren’t lying. Yes, we are the same person. :-D

Another thing about that DWTP performance last night — I really got the feeling that I was watching an arena anthem — made me think of what the Beatles were going for with the Hey Jude outride (both use the same classic rock chord progression, btw).

  23. Wow Allison is amazing. I hope her album sales improve because it rocks and she deserves succes. Trouble is was perfectly awesome.

  24. JohnM
I keep telling people that [Trouble Is] is the grand slam home run.

You called it after the Torrid listening.
What’s the deal with the criticism of her stage presence? She definitely has one. What some call “frenetic” I call unique and appropriate for the material.

  25. Geez, the piano player on Cry Baby ruined that song for her in that performance. I’m really liking what Allison is putting out. She’s very, very talented! Unfortunately, I can’t imagine picking up her CD because I’m such a moldie oldie, lol. I guess I could be a closet fan though!!!! I come from the Woodstock era, and some things about her reminds me of that time. Love her gritty vocals.

  26. I adore Allison. Trouble Is – is incredible! I’m still amazed that a 17 year old can sing with such depth, passion and vulnerability. I have to say, there are only a couple songs on Allison’s album I don’t enjoy (Friday I’ll be over U” being the main one) and I really think she has tremendous potential for a long career if that’s what she wants.

(I also love that she has two women in her band.)

  27. Anybody else getting the vibe that Holidaay will be Alli’s next single? Even with the Dilana issue?

    Loved the arrangement!!

I hope Dilana writes more songs for Alli on her next album!!

  28. Unfortunately, I can’t imagine picking up her CD because I’m such a moldie oldie, lol.

Get yourself a fuzzy puss (Alliology 101 ref. ‘Allison Iraheta Buys Her Own Album’ 12/03/09) and hit the store.

Hi hard cores – lots to catch up on… I’m gonna post on the last thread soon – cuz I wanna leave it there.

  29. Will the two women in her band (and the two guys for that matter) continue with her or are they just with her for the jingle balls? I think this band looks/sounds fantastic with her, so hope they stay around for quite awhile!!!

  30. JudyOhio: Geez, the piano player on Cry Baby ruined that song for her in that performance.

Yeah, we were talking about it in the previous Allison thread. After my first listen, I wasn’t convinced that they didn’t rehearse it that way, but now I am. I think they worked it up as just a little edited treat, and he didn’t know it well enough and thus dropped some measures going into the chorus. Liked his chords, though.

Unfortunately, I can’t imagine picking up her CD because I’m such a moldie oldie, lol.

Ohh, that excuse ain’t gonna fly around here! I’m 50, jordison is 65, I know another fan who’s 61. Why can’t you imagine buying it? Repeat after me: I will buy Allison’s CD… I will buy Allison’s CD…

  31. matkojapan: Anybody else getting the vibe that Holidaay will be Alli’s next single? Even with the Dilana issue?

No. I think all signs point to Don’t Waste The Pretty.

I keep telling people that [Trouble Is] is the grand slam home run.

You called it after the Torrid listening

I want co-credit for that one. JohnM and I both said the same thing with our Torrid reports. I didn’t fondle sweaters for 40 minutes for nothing. :)

  33. JudyOhio: Will the two women in her band (and the two guys for that matter) continue with her or are they just with her for the jingle balls?

Yeah, that’s her band. There’s no reason to believe there will be any changes in the foreseeable future.

And yeah, it’s way cool that she’s got a mixed-gender band. She said the other day that she didn’t plan it that way — she just picked who she thought was best from among the finalists who were presented to her. How cool that it worked out that way.

  34. Unfortunately, I can’t imagine picking up her CD because I’m such a moldie oldie, lol.

Then go for the undercover iTunes…nobody knows who you are or how old you are in there and you get an extra track if you buy the Deluxe version of the album. That’s no excuse, pick up the album, girl needs to sell ;)

The Cry baby thing was really not rehearsed in depth, so it was more like a little bonus and it wasn’t even the full song, just something for the AI fans so it’s no big deal.

Anybody else getting the vibe that Holidaay will be Alli’s next single? Even with the Dilana issue?

I’m almost 100% convinced it will be Don’t wast the pretty, they’re really pushing that one but I’m actually really surprised that she’s doing Holiday in these live shows, maybe to make clear that she does have rock in her album…damage control for the poppyness of FIBOU maybe?

  35. She sounds great! I do think she will have a long career. I think especially when she gets a couple of years older and she can shed the “teen” thing. I think she needs a tour opening for some established artists. I think if people get a chance to hear her they will really like her.

I have to say Season 8 has produced some solid AI debut albums, regardless of how they sell the first week.

  36. as much as I like DWTP, I can’t see it. Even though it’s her favorite song.

Dilana’s version of Holiday tanked, right?

    PLEASE BE HOLIDAY!!!

But I totally see your point PrMari…

  37. JohnM: What some call ‘frenetic’ I call unique and appropriate for the material.

Bingo. She sings with her whole body and whole soul. Not a damn thing wrong with that.

JudyOhio do yourself a favor and pick up the CD! Order it from iTunes if you don’t want to get it at a shop, but just get it! You won’t be sorry. It is *not* a teenybopper record. I don’t know how to describe it, since it’s both age appropriate *and* a very, very mature piece of work, so I’ll just say Go Go! You won’t be sorry. : )

  38. It is *not* a teenybopper record. I don’t know how to describe it, since it’s both age appropriate *and* a very, very mature piece of work, so I’ll just say Go Go! You won’t be sorry. : )

ITA- at first I wasn’t going to buy it because I thought it would be very teeny bopper. But afer hearing the songs, I just went right now and downloaded it. I am very surprised and happy that Jive didn’t try and turn Allison into a Miley or some other party girl.

  39. MollyAnnMay, actually that was LoveDaRocker who made the “unique and appropriate” comment, not me — although I totally and enthusiastically agree!

  40. I am very surprised and happy that Jive didn’t try and turn Allison into a Miley or some other party girl.

It really surprised me too and I’m glad. It also really, really surprised me that they let her record a song in Spanish and is also performing it here and there. I thought we would have to wait to hear her sing in Spanish.

  41. Those AOL sessions are so sick it’s scary!! Got me some goose bumps!!

To all those that think DWTP will be her next single, do u think it’s a smart choice? I personally don’t. Even though I love it!! How do u market that song for her?

  42. JudyOhio

Geez, the piano player on Cry Baby ruined that song for her in that performance. I’m really liking what Allison is putting out. She’s very, very talented! I come from the Woodstock era, and some things about her reminds me of that time. Love her gritty vocals.

OK JudyOhio, our theory is that maybe the crowd (I hope there was a crowd) was yelling for Cry Baby, and they decided to wing it without any rehearsal, because it sure sounded like the keyboard was kinda lost.

    As to your Woodstockness,

I am from the SF Bay Area Fillmore/Winterland/Altamont (unfortunately) era. I’m older than the Altamont hills. Still,

I downloaded FIBOU twice, because I felt “guilty” for buying it on the wrong day (and I’m not particularly in love with the song – I like the Spanish version better), pre-ordered the Deluxe on iTunes, and bought multiple copies of the CD at both Best Buy and Target on Tuesday. I then played it at full volume in my car, while knowing that my old ears would be ringing for days after.

Why, because this is an amazing talent. Because I am afraid that somehow she is not going to get the recognition she deserves. Because it kills me that there is so much crap out there today selling tons of records.

    So, join me in saying:

I AM AN ALLIHOLIC. I’M SICK OF CRAPPY MUSIC AND I’M NOT GOING TO TAKE IT ANYMORE!

Or, at least won’t you please consider buying at least one copy?

There – I’ve said it. I think now I’m going to go take a nap.

  43. To all those that think DWTP will be her next single, do u think it’s a smart choice? I personally don’t. Even though I love it!! How do u market that song for her?

I personally wouldn’t go for that one just because I (selfish me) would want something with even more rock to it as the second single but the song is getting good reviews, she’s done the acoustic and full band version many times and the song is very radio friendly. It’s a total girl power song too but without being massively sugary. The live arrangement is even more rock than the album version and the acoustic version is very bluesy so I think there’s room to market that song for her for sure.

  44. Why no one thinks the next single should be TI? Its deep and is a powerful rock balad.
Not dissing the others. I love them all (except BMU). DWTP makes sense if they want to stay in the teen area; not because it is a teeny-poppy song, but because it seem as a good message song for teen girls.

BTW: I played Holiday in the car very loud and it gave me goosebumps.

  45. I feel like the little kid in this thread… I’m 48 (and yes, I bought the Amazon version online, from here in El Salvador, and am still waiting for it)

  46. I think that DWTP would be a good choice. Good middle ground between the poppy and the harder rock.

BTW, anybody here also a So You Think You Can Dance (SYTYCD) watcher? I happen to think that some of Alli’s songs would be dynamite for either group, couples or solo numbers. Since SYTYCD is a 19E production, it might make sense to do a little promotion. Only 2 problems: 1) the show only has about 3 weeks left this season, and 2) for 19E “political” reasons there would have to also be Kris and Adam songs included. That’s a lot of songs. But, it would be a nice promotion to lead into Season 9 of Idol.

    Just a thought.

I feel like the little kid in this thread’ ¦ I’m 48 (and yes, I bought the Amazon version online, from here in El Salvador, and am still waiting for it)

Great! We were looking for someone in the 40s. We’re trying to get at least one person from teens through 90s.

roquemocan: Could you do us a big favor? Could you please get every person in El Salvador to buy at least one copy of the album, and get the government to declare her a national hero.

You have one week. Thank you.

  48. BTW, anybody here also a So You Think You Can Dance (SYTYCD) watcher? I happen to think that some of Alli’s songs would be dynamite for either group, couples or solo numbers.

Not a watcher. But last season they did use Kris’ version of “To Make You Feel My Love”, so it wouldn’t be exactly unprecedented.
Maybe they can dance to FYE :-).

  49. Hey, I’m the baby here since I’m 33…and while I’m a female, it’s interesting to me how many older male fans this kid has, heh.

roquemocan: Could you do us a big favor? Could you please get every person in El Salvador to buy at least one copy of the album, and get the government to declare her a national hero.

Awesome…seriously though, there is some show producer from El Salvador that is dying to get her on his show or at least to play her video. Some people have blogged and tweeted about it, trying to get her team’s attention.

  50. DWTP would be perfect as the second single. Slow it up a little with TI as the third.

  51. I get the same vibe from DWTP I got from Natasha Bedingfield’s Unwritten. Both songs are aimed at the 13-24 female demographic, but well written enough to get recognition from older demographics. Howard Benson produced it to be a Top 40/Hot AC charting song, which is why it has a slight rock edge. It could possibly do well as it is a change of pace from current radio songs, much like Unwritten was back in ’06.

As far as Holiday goes. Dilana released it back in 2007 as the b-side to Ring of Fire, in the iTunes Rockstar: Supernova special section. It didn’t chart. Its on her recent album release Inside Out, but she has no control of that album as it was considered an asset of her recording company and was acquired when the label went under. The releasing label paid Dilana for the right to release the album, which they did digitally in November of this year. The label also made a video, which was released in conjunction with the album. No attempt at radio airplay has been made, not even registering the song with Mediabase for tracking. So, it could possibly be a single.

  52. I agree that DWTP is a good choice for a single, for the reasons that others have already stated. It’s sort of a middle ground. It sounds to me like a Hot AC song that could go somewhere on Top 40 as well. And it gets away from the “poppy criticism” that FIBOU attracts. Assuming that something like DWTP is successful and her success ends up not being dependent on FIBOU, I think it’d be better for her image if something other than FIBOU is her first hit, so that she doesn’t get stuck in the “teen girl” box that Jive’s marketing department seems to want her to be in.

LoveDaRocker: Why no one thinks the next single should be TI? Its deep and is a powerful rock balad.

Well, it absolutely should be a single at some point — and if it isn’t, I’m gonna start cutting myself! Or someone at Jive. I see it as potentially “the ballad hit” that could blow up huge (not that I know anything, but there it is). Apologies to Scars fans, but I don’t think Scars is the one — and personally I think the reason Scars has scars is because Trouble Is kicks its butt all over the parking lot (thanks to PRMari for the butt-kicking metaphor!).

But I think she should have a more upbeat song on the charts first, before the ballad comes out.

jordison: for 19E ‘political’ reasons there would have to also be Kris and Adam songs included.

I believe Kris is going to be on SYTYCD next week??

PRMari: Hey, I’m the baby here since I’m 33′ ¦and while I’m a female, it’s interesting to me how many older male fans this kid has, heh.

Hey, somebody’s gotta balance out that whole “cougar” silliness, eh?

  53. Jordison,

I have been out of the country El Salvador for work, but will tell all my friends by Facebook to buy it ASAP!.

I would so much like to have the government here in El Salvador declare her a hero! Right now there is too much political turmoil (new government, crisis, hurricanes, etc), but in due time!

I also contacted a concert promoter that brings people here to El Salvador (he lives in Arizona) and he asked me who handles her… I suppose it is 19 Entertainment, yes? Again, it may be too soon for that – but if she came, we would bring her to the native town of her family: the remote Sensuntepeque, so she reconnects with her roots. There you have, another name to research how it is pronounced (Iraheta, Sensuntepeque)…

  54. Hey cheeseguy99. thanks for that info! I still have hope for Holiday!!

And for the rest of u, I will do all in my power to make her a hit in Japan!!

I have a secret weapon!! Trust me!!

    :)

  55. roquemocan, Allison is managed by 19 Management, specifically Simon Fuller and Ann Edelblute

  56. Hey matkojapan, just don’t make her so big in Japan that she only tours there!

  57. I’m so far behind on this thread (argh, when did this blog become so much work!! :)), but just wanted to say that I agree with every awesome, amazing comment about the Trouble Is vid 100% x 2 (so there! top that!)

But seriously, I’m the puddle of goo that ‘crazy’ PRMari always talks about…

That’s the truth. I think I need to take a break. “But just when I think I’ve gotten away it draws me back in.” Is that the correct quote from Godfather 3 – I’m too lazy to look it up.

  60. JohnM

she will be all mine I tells you!!

    Jordison

    close enough!! lol

Anyway, my ex is a radio DJ in the third biggest market in Japan!!

She hates me :( but loves Allison!! :)

She said she would play her songs once it drops, but it depends on the Program director!

I hope she is screwing him!!

  61. I hope she is screwing him!!

I think this quote is from matkojapan – not me! :)

I guess this is why I can’t leave my computer!

  62. The sound isn’t so great on the concert footage, but you can tell she rocked it.

I for one hope she doesn’t get too “polished” in her performance style. She’s a natural. I’d hate for her to have the same cliche’d moves as everyone else.

I also thought her outfit was cute. Very age and music appropriate.

  63. Wow. Wow. WOW. This girl is gifted, that’s all I can say. Trouble Is just blew my mind. I wish I had her voice.

  64. 40 plus mom here
1st and foremost a Kris fan
love Allison esp. DWTP and think she’d kick ass with that single

  65. jordison– JohnM and I did so.

Hey you two – left one last response for both of you back at the ol’ DWTP vid thread. And that’s it, I ain’t goin’ back there!

Had to get up super early this morning and now I’m seeing double. I’ll be back here tomorrow to finish up.

  66. I am amazed but pleased by an Allison thread with this many posts. The girl is now getting people excited, which is much deserved. Count me as another huge fan of “Trouble Is”.

  67. Trouble is…..well….I think that could be a hit single. Love it.

  68. csprof: I am amazed but pleased by an Allison thread with this many posts. The girl is now getting people excited, which is much deserved.

It’s nice to feel that those days of being lone voices in the wilderness back in the spring might be fading into the background somewhat. :-)

  69. csprof:I am amazed but pleased by an Allison thread with this many posts.

I might as well add to the post count more. I love this girl.

I just joined this site earlier today since I figured I might want to post every once in a while. I’ve lurked for a while ever since mid-season 8.
(college student here, so I’ve been trying to keep my focus on studies. But breaks every now and then are nice.)
So let me know if there’s any rules that I should know about posting though if you can.

Allison is my favorite from season 8 (but then again she might be my favorite contestant from American Idol as a whole), since she continued to amaze me then and still does. But I still loved other performers as well.

Her live performances are so much better than her album I think. But of course her album is really good too (some songs I’ll want to play more than others, but all are good). I didn’t start liking FIBOU until I saw it live. Now I actually like it.

I love her performing style too. It’s so real, and natural. Her voice is just so raw too in her live performances. I can’t get enough of her live stuff really. She get’s so into the songs and I love it.

Trouble Is, is just so amazing in that AOL session. As are all the performances really.

jordison:Great! We were looking for someone in the 40s. We’re trying to get at least one person from teens through 90s.

Would I be able to help the cause? I’m 19 at the moment.
Sorry for the delayed response to that. I was just looking at the other comments and saw that.

  70. I’m 41, but I’m leary of causes. I think that her music will catch on if it’s meant to be. I think it is. :-)

I supported (and voted) for Allison until she got the boot. I did throw some votes to Adam, but mostly Allison. I am not concerned with her sales. I think they are treating her as a new artist, not an Idol to make a quick buck off…

I think she’ll do well if they are patient. I guess time will tell.

Oh, and Roll Tide Roll (couldn’t resist!).

  71. JohnM
And did you notice how Valerie half-timed the beat with 30 seconds left? I’m not sure, but it sounded to me like she thought they were ending at that point, and then recovered by dropping to a half-time beat. If that’s what happened, great split-second thinking. If it was intentional, excellent choice and I hope she keeps it. Love that girl.

    Crossthreading!
I noticed the timing change and I love it. I think it is deliberate. Look closely at Allison. She moves with the change.

  72. pj:I supported (and voted) for Allison until she got the boot.

I keep kicking myself since I didn’t vote for her. :(
I really should have. At first I was worried if it’d cost though, since I didn’t vote in any other seasons. But I figure it’s free.

I think she’ll do well though. At least I sure hope so. All she needs is some more radio play I figure, since her songs sound so amazing in the car. I had to listen to my CD in my car on my way to school one day.
Once people hear her I’m sure more and more fans will come about though.

Edit: About the not voting part. The more I think about it the more I probably would have been willing to pay a little even if it did cost. But then votes add up, and I could get too carried away.

  73. Vital
So let me know if there’s any rules that I should know about posting though if you can.

    Here are some:
    use common sense (as in “Allison is amazing”);
do not hate other posters or other Idols (leave that to Kradams); and
defend Allison as a mother lion would defend her cub (I was actually called mother lion once).

ETA: do not attribute alli lurker’s posts to someone else

  74. Thank you, LoveDaRocker.
I’ll do my best to follow those rules. I’m going to make sure I defend Allison like a mother lion would defend her cub. And hopefully I have enough common sense and know how to use it.

You have learned well, young Skywalker.

  77. Hey LoveDaRocker, thanks for replying about the Valerie half-timing thing — I was kinda disappointed that no one had commented on it. Although, having gone back and watched that transition several times just now, I don’t see any difference in Allison that corresponds to it. Anyway, I’m not at all convinced that Valerie got caught off-guard. Just wondering.

Can I just say, also, that I’m really annoyed by this trend of using drum shields? Yeah, I’m sure it helps with sound, and normally I’m all about the sound and nothing else, but it just feels like the drummer is cut off.

  78. chessguy99 : The AOL sessions stuff just reinforces my opinion that she should have gone more towards mainstream rock with occasional Top 40 singles…

Im not clear where you’re going with this. Did the AOL Sessions rock or not?

There is a major void in rock for female vocal talent.

There was, right up to December 1st.

Rock, accompanies Top 40. Everybody seems to throw the rock genre around loosely. Just the other day some magazine called Miley a rocker. Now, if you’re talking about Hard Rock, New Metal etc., or even punk rock, then some may say – what about Paramore? There’s a hard rocking chick representing. In all reality, there’s an abundance of female rockers under Indies trying to take a shot at the title. Dilana for instance, rocks pretty hard, but she rolls under the radar because – guess what – she hasn’t crack the dreaded Top 40. I just took a peek at the itunes rock category, and is filled with lameness with John Mayer sitting at the top of the charts. Why? Because chicks dig ’em? It can’t be his guitar playing – ain’t nothing out of this world, or anything that spearheads a movement – he even has a duet with TAYLOR SWIFT. In this day and age, the state of rock and roll fundamentally, differs from the 80s, 90s and early 2000s – my heydays. Its in a vacuum spiral that knocked out guitar solos and its about to bland out power chords, and people have developed a taste for it. Im barely hanging on to AFI, one of my favorite punk bands.

All things considered, Allison is right in the thick of it. All songs from AOL Sessions rock in some shape or form including Friday. She rocks and she can’t help it, her vocals hinders – her every attempt as documented by her performance of ICMYLM on idol, she rocked. I was checking the other performers on youtube of the Memphis gig, and as objective as one can be, as an Allison fan at least, her set blew everybody off the stage. And her band is not even tight yet – they’re a little shy and too careful for my taste.

I see everybody having fun in this thread with all the vids and how awesome TI is, and I agree.
Im a little late today with work and other responsibilities to fulfill.
We’ll talk some more tomorrow – maybe a little Robot?

I came back here, and decided to listen to EVTOY another time. I really don’t think I can get bored watching her perform. Which is nice yet bad at the same time.
Bad only because I’ll never get anything done if I keep watching her videos over and over again. And that’s so easy to do for me.

  80. Trouble Is, is just so amazing in that AOL session. As are all the performances really.

Would like to see all of her AOL session. Anyone have a link to it?

  81. Would like to see her AOL session. Anyone have a link to it?

The actual AOL sessions aren’t up on AOL yet. They were on for a short while, which you may have heard or not, but then taken down. And they still aren’t back up there.
At least, I can’t find them on there yet.

3 of the 5 performances Allison did in the AOL sessions are posted though on this topic, above.

I noticed alliholics on youtube happened to have all the performances from the AOL sessions posted up. I hope it’s okay to posts links to them here. Here’s the 2 that weren’t posted on this topic yet.

Thank you, thank you, thank you!

As much as I like DWTP on the album, and I really do, this version is so much better. I agree about the guitar solo at the end – love it. It has bothered me that the album version of DWTP just abruptly ends. Allison has a nice finish to the acoustic version, but it seemed lacking on the album. The guitar is just great.

Anybody reading this – please still get the album – it’s awesome. Just obviously Allison’s live performances are also going to add some really nice additional elements to the music.

I’ve got to quit – I feel like I’ve been working a double shift today.

Couple of comments there. One is that the iTunes genre classifications are really weird and often off the mark. Heck, over at Amazon, I think I saw none other than rocker chick Susan Boyle listed under rock!

And about John Mayer, that’s certainly true about his singles, and I’ve been disappointed in his mellow direction. But when you look past that stuff, in my book he’s a really excellent player. Right from the first time I heard him (a passage from his demo CD circa 1999) I’ve thought of him as a guitarist first and foremost, and oh by the way a guy who writes and sings too. I could listen to him play all day.

You have learned well, young Skywalker.

God, JohnM, you really are a geek aren’t you?!

  86. Guilty as charged!

Hey, aren’t you supposed to be in bed? I thought you were hanging it up for the night?!

  87. Watching the Cry Baby vid is like watching Frank Sinatra – in a good way – its like she’s already famous…

Speaking of which, I always thought what Paula said about the top 5 becoming a new rat pack was a good idea. So I guess that would make Allison… Angie Dickinson, or Ann Margrock… was she around for that? (jordison?)

Matty G would definitely be Dean Martin. Kris would be Sammy Davis, Jr. I guess Adam would be Sinatra.

  88. Thanks! I was cracking up when I wrote it… still am, actually.

    Hoo boy, slaphappy now.

  89. Who is Ann Margrock?

Hey it’s 10:43 here. Aren’t you guys up kinda late?

Any comments on the DWTP AOL session?

  90. Wow – great stage presence on DWTP (Memphis)… Nice! Go for it Allison!!

BTW – Who is sponsoring the Memphis concert? I can’t quite make out that ginormous sign…

    jordison – kidding about Margrock?

  91. Totally forgot about Danny (as usual), but yeah Joey Bishop! Or maybe Soupy Sales….

  92. Ann Margaret?

Yes, when she guest appeared on the Flintstones in cartoon form. Duh… after your time?

  93. C’mon jordison, you’re old enough to get that one! Ann Margrock is a rockin’ Ann-Margret.

ETA: Okay, apparently I didn’t get the actual joke either — but I liked the joke that I did get!

Also ETA: Yes! Soupy Sales is perfect for Danny!

Hey it’s 10:43 here. Aren’t you guys up kinda late?

Yup. I live in a house of freakin’ night owls. ‘Bout time to call it quits, though.

Any comments on the DWTP AOL session?

Well, one is… Valerie F*ing Franco! There, I said it again. That kid is awesome.

And another is this: Although the mix for FIBOU on GMA wasn’t very good, I could tell that there was a good vocal harmony arrangement and that the band was doing a good job with it. When I watched the AOL DWTP, I was blown away by the quality of the backing vocals — so much so that I was prompted to wonder if they were actually pre-recorded.

And go Dave on the guitar! And Priscilla had some nice stuff going on the bass.

Notice that it’s to the point where I don’t necessarily even feel the need to comment on Allison’s singing — it’s just a given that it’s awesome…

Maybe I missed your comments, but have you seen the latest AOL Sessions for DWTP and FIBOU?

If the links don’t come through, go back a page to Vital’s post.

  95. OK, now this is at least the 3rd time today that JohnM and I have crossed paths on the posts.

  96. jordison – Jeesus, fine I’ll go hunt them down. Don’t fall asleep…

  97. We’ll talk some more tomorrow ‘“ maybe a little Robot?

I thought I would not like robot, but its actually ok. Definitely a step above cannon fodder. But again, I can’t call any song in this CD filler. I don’t like BMU, but I wouldn’ t call it filler. Is actually quite unique and catchy. I just can’t get past the lyrics.
And yes it’s so late here in the east coast that it’s early. I am trying to get my computers “clean”, which is good to do at night, for some reason.

  98. Don’t fall asleep’ ¦

Nah, he had his old-person afternoon nap — he’s good to go…

Me, on the other hand, I’m packin’ it in.

  99. Gosh. DWTP! I was lucky to catch a few of the AOL performances before AOL took them down. DWTP wasn’t one I clicked on because I didn’t think it could match Yahoo’s acoustic version. Now I am not so sure. They “dirty” it up a bit. Good job.

  100. Okay watched DWTP (AOL) twice… thats my new rule… kinda f’d up on Holiday yesterday.

I’m not good for too much beyond silliness at this point, but of course I love it. The band is harmonizing really well as our ‘choral group’, and Allison just looks like a pro now. She’s just feelin’ it and letting it go. Gotta love our girl.

I can’t speak to the musicality – gotta go to JohnM, Rub, or LoveDaRocker for that.

    Ok, chew on this…

while I go back for a second Friday. First view was so-so.

  101. I find it really hard to get into FIBOU after watching the others, but I think this version is much better than the album version. They “dirtied it up” quite a bit, and I think as they do it more and more it will just get funkier.

Still, it aint no Trouble Is, or DWTP, or Holiday, or ….

  102. Actually, Friday is probably the only song where I prefer the studio recording. Its crisper, and I like that. In the live version she kind of holds the note on Get Meeee, To Forget Meeee, Over Youuuuu. I’d prefer that she didn’t.

Some of her antics in the Friday AOL version are great though… at around 1:35 she does kind of a brief ‘muscle man’ pose and I love the little dance at 2:30.

I also noticed on this song (especially on GMA) and also on Holiday (AOL) there’s some kind of ‘warbling’ sound in the background. I imagine its coming from the keyboards, but it sounds kinda weird to me.

    Ok, ya wanna say g’night?

  103. When I watched the AOL DWTP, I was blown away by the quality of the backing vocals ‘” so much so that I was prompted to wonder if they were actually pre-recorded.

Me too, I wondered if they were pre-recorded because they harmonized so incredibly well. Those are 4 talented kids on stage (they keyboard player isn’t as young as they are, so I don’t call him a kid). I hope this band sticks with her because they definitely get her, they get along really well and they are excellent. The Memphis performances of Don’t waste the pretty also included the guitar solo so this is their live arrangement for the song and I think it’s awesome. I also liked the moment when she gets the audience to join in and clap with her. It’s a great song to perform live.

My only wish is that David loosens up a little bit and starts interacting more closely with Allison. One of the things I really liked about the tour performances were Alison’s interactions with Tim Stewart on stage; he really got into her performances and you could tell he totally loved playing Barracuda for her.

  104. I must say, I think I like Allison’s studio versions for these songs better, because I can’t understand so many words that she is singing. I like the clean and crisp studio versions.

  105. JohnM : …One is that the iTunes genre classifications are really weird and often off the mark. Heck, over at Amazon, I think I saw none other than rocker chick Susan Boyle listed under rock!

Uhh c’mon! Susan rocks hard yo! lol

And about John Mayer…when you look past that stuff, in my book he’s a really excellent player. Right from the first time I heard him…I’ve thought of him as a guitarist first and foremost, and oh by the way a guy who writes and sings too.

All this time I thought people liked him because he was dating Rachel Green. =p
Yeah, he’s a good musician and has some nice chops too. I was just driving the point about the rock genre and how it can be applied to just about anything that sings.

  106. LoveDaRocker : I thought I would not like robot, but its actually ok. Definitely a step above cannon fodder. But again, I can’t call any song in this CD filler. I don’t like BMU, but I wouldn’ t call it filler. Is actually quite unique and catchy. I just can’t get past the lyrics.

I like Robot and there are others that have heralded better than our favorites in their reviews. Its no surprise most reviewers have coincided in their opinion as the better album of the three. Those trax(Robot,BMU) have a purpose in balancing the album and it fits cohesively with the girl empowering theme across the record. Its brilliant. Alli knows a thing or two about making a kick ass debut album. Because judging by the interviews, it was all her as she kept discarding trax through process of elimination for building something she thought was worth her time within the parameters of her goals for the album. Wisdom beyond her years.

  107. I agree with both jordison and alli lurker with Friday. Im a Viernes/Friday fan and what does it for me, its the drum, the break beats, even though they can’t get it right live yet(even Allison).

PRMari : My only wish is that David loosens up a little bit and starts interacting more closely with Allison. One of the things I really liked about the tour performances were Alison’s interactions with Tim Stewart on stage; he really got into her performances and you could tell he totally loved playing Barracuda for her.

I agree. The “loosening up” will come – right now they just want to play in time and finish the song correctly. lol They might be incredible in their instruments, but ensemble playing takes time and practice, especially with originals songs never heard before.

With Stewart, he never approched Alli – it was routined based – and it was Alli who had to go to him at certain points in her set. The way I saw it.

I must say, I think I like Allison’s studio versions for these songs better, because I can’t understand so many words that she is singing. I like the clean and crisp studio versions.

Im glad you bought the album, and you can already find the lyrics on the net.

  108. great performances! Allison rocks as usual! The band is great and they feel more and more comfortable on stage together. I prefer the Jingle Jam videos more, the sound is crappy, but Allison let’s loose like on AI tour. She just needs the audience to do that. Love that they changeded up some songs a bit – added guitar solos, more drums – LOVE IT! Also it looks like the audience on Jinge Jam enjoyed her performance, they even clapped with her – so happy to hear and see that! Rock on Allie!!!!!!

  109. I will probably be in the minority here, but I kind-of like that MJ refers to Allison as “La Princesa”. Judging by Alli’s reaction to “La Princesa Del Mariachi”, however, I don’t know if she would like it :-). “La Princesa Del Rock”?

  110. I’ve been so incredibly impressed with Allison’s live performance recently. Her AOL sessions are INCREDIBLE.

  111. With Stewart, he never approched Alli ‘“ it was routined based ‘“ and it was Alli who had to go to him at certain points in her set. The way I saw it.

I know it was part of the “choreography” that she was the one who approached him (stalk him) but what I mean is that when she did you could see in his facial expression and body language that he was 100% into the performance and dare I say so, into her (as a performer). They just had great chemistry and I wish the same for this new band. I’m sure it’ll come in time. David just seems like a more relaxed guy, unlike Valerie who I love to watch when they’re playing. She’s so much fun. Both her and Allison are just electric on stage. I kind of love her band.

  112. when is allison’s fibou mv going to be on VH1. she had it out b/4 Adam’s and his is up 4 voting into the top 20 countdown. hope they plan to put hers up soon. that video cld get her more younger fans . it’s young and playful like that.

  113. LoveDaRocker: I will probably be in the minority here, but I kind-of like that MJ refers to Allison as ‘La Princesa’ .

Well, I don’t know why you think you’d be in the minority. I think it’s great.

I agree with PRMari about hoping that Dave loosens up some. It seemed like he was loosening up a bit in Memphis. I wonder if he’s very accustomed to staying out of the way of the “star”, having been a touring guitarist for Lesley Roy before this, and needs to shake off that mindset. Or maybe he’s just a laid-back guy and that’s that.

  114. Good morning (here).

Well I woke up with the Sessions DWTP racing through my head, and, although I’m not a musician, I started to imagine versions of this song reminding me of the old days, like when bands would go off and improvise for 20 minutes or so off the main musical line. I started to hear expanded bass solos, drums, guitar solo, Allison improv – all this in my head.

I think what got me started thinking this is Allison’s string of “beautifuls” during the (technical term?) rapid fire “don’t waste the pretties” and realized the potential to jam and improvise off this part.

    Am I nuts?

  115. LoveDaRocker: I will probably be in the minority here, but I kind-of like that MJ refers to Allison as ‘La Princesa’ .

JohnM: Well, I don’t know why you think you’d be in the minority. I think it’s great.

I also have to add that I think it’s pretty awesome as well. So I’m sure you might be more in the majority on that. Her reaction to that album cover was so priceless.
I know of one photo from when I was 7 or 8 that I’m embarrassed about to some extent.

And about the Dave loosening up a bit, I’m also hoping that it’ll come with time. I’m almost positive I saw him smile a bit in that guitar solo at the end of DWTP in the AOL session.
But he could still get more into it.

Allison, and also Val, seem to get really into the music when performing, so that might be why he appears even more so laid back than he might be. Maybe?

Her band is so good though, so I really love that. I was a bit worried before she got a band as far as how good the music would be to back those awesome vocals. And I think the band helps make most of the live performances better than the recordings. Since not only is her live voice better, but the band plays so well. So in someways I like the music backing her vocals better live.
I’m really hoping her band members stay around for a while, since loosening up when performing could come with time I’m sure. I’m just glad they play so well though.

    Good morning (here).

    Am I nuts?

Good morning. Here it’s afternoon already.
And, nah, I don’t think you’re nuts. Maybe you were having a vision of what’s to come from Allison and her band?

From the way you’re thinking, it sounds like DWTP could turn out to be pretty neat that way.
Improv in there would be neat, and it would allow her to change the song up a bit if she wants when she performs it. And it would still sound like the same song with adding improv in there, at that part.

I like your thoughts about that.

  116. Going back to her Jingle Jam Cry Baby performance for a minute…
The same person (janfan211) posted a video of Holiday which seemed to end abruptly without Allison’s final wail. I asked her about it:

mmv113: Did she wail at the end? Looks like the video cut off – if this was a performance similar to theï »’ AOL sessions.

janfan211 (15 hours ago): Nope. She ended it this way. But I did cut to soon on her wail on my cry baby video. Sounded like the song was over but she had just paused and the wailed the ending of cry baby. But it was too late and I missedï »’ it. And it was so awesome too. So upset I didn’t get that recorded.

Would have liked to see this…hopefully another video will pop up soon! Here’s a link to Holiday (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D_qhtqTa09w). It’s not the whole thing but it’s still great!

  117. Well, Dave IS loosening up already!

jordison, I don’t think you’re nuts either about a DWTP jam. (Maybe about other stuff, but that’s another story!) I said yesterday that the Memphis performances felt to me like an epic arena event, and that’s partly what I envision — some improv by various band members while cranking out that classic rock chord progression.

  118. Here is a new YouTube of Holiday, complete, good quality, just posted from the LA KIIS-FM Jingle Jam yesterday:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xLljGW9pd8g

Wow. Thank you for the link.
I would really have loved to have been there. That looked like a great performance. It sounded really good.

Maybe it’s me, but I really think David seemed much more into the song in that video than in the AOL sessions. Which I loved seeing him moving around jamming more while Allison was doing her thing up there too. Since if they look like they are really loving it, it makes it all that much more fun to watch.

  119. Well, Dave IS loosening up already!

I forgot to refresh the page before posting. Guess it’s not just me who thought Dave got a lot more into that performance at the Jingle Ball then.

  120. Oh YEAH!! Thanks jordison.
I like the way the stage is set up with the guitars up front – the traditional format.

JohnM, I think these guys can tear up the stage, I’ve seen them before in doing research, especially Priscilla and her fire. I don’t know if its a combination of 19E pushing to feature Alli, or stage jitters and all. I think its just jitters coz Alli isn’t her usual self either, though she shows glimpses from time to time.

I hope mj starts a thread for the kiis gig.
Alli’s vocals are on fire today(well yesterday) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xLljGW9pd8g

Oh yeah, jordison, I forgot to give you the link to the UW-Madison student paper review:

Saw this yesterday and wanted to comment… I think its a pretty fair review, but I wanted to call out one thing (because I totally agree!) Ahem, and I quote…

‘D Is For Dangerous’ and ‘You Don’t Know Me’ are certified radio-hits that have a sexy kind of aching rock rawness to them that organically highlights Iraheta’s beautifully raspy harmonies.

Sexy aching rock rawness – couldn’t have said it better myself!

Ah, yes’ ¦ UW-Madison ‘“ lots of smart people there, right?

Have to comment, though – sloppy journalism. Allison never sang “Piece of My Heart” on Idol. Reviewer should have known it was Cry Baby (a great choice, Joplin classic, which the judges criticized for whatever reason I will never understand)

UW – Madison. My wife and I accompanied our son to UW Madison this September, scouting out grad school. Was never so scared in my life driving down University Avenue, dodging cars, busses, bicycles, jaywalking pedestrians – by the thousands. And this was in the middle of campus. Still, it’s a beautiful (some parts, that is) campus.

  123. For some reason can’t edit above. Forgot to block quote everything above “Have to comment, – though

  124. LoveDaRocker:

Sounds fair. My only criticism (besides the Piece of My Heart ‘typo’ ), is the overlook of Trouble Is.

And then there was one reviewer (can’t remember where it was, nor do I care) who said that Trouble Is was just a filler song. This person should have his reviewer license revoked.

And I won’t put an IMO after that.

  125. LoveDaRocker
And for me (for you) the take on BMU is dead on.

I have to give you credit, LoveDaRocker, you are steadfast in your dislike of BMU. I personally love listening to it, but it might be a mistake to release it as a single. Could be a club hit, though?

jordison – you wrote about SYTYCD yesterday. Last season they used Kris’ Heartless, it was good. I could see ‘D’ on that show. BMU, too, but again the controversy. I haven’t been watching this season.

  126. Cry Baby (a great choice, Joplin classic, which the judges criticized for whatever reason I will never understand)

My take was that everybody expected Allison to really rock and Cry Baby didn’t have the punch everyone was waiting for, especially after WLL. Expectations were so high that night.

It sounds like her choices were very limited. I thought she should have shopped in the men’s dept. – I don’t think she ever did that on the show, though.

ETA: It certainly doesn’t matter anymore!

    Michael Jackson?

I think “D” would make a great group opening number. However, there probably aren’t enough weeks or dancers left for that.

I have tried to like it. I really have. But I like Allison’s voice to much.
Someone like Britney can get away with a song like that because she has no voice. Any Brtiney song for me is catchy music with some background noise which happens to be her. For example, even though I have heard “Hit Me Baby One More Time” many times before, and Kris did that cute cover, the S&M implications of the song came to me only after BMU comparissons started to surface.
I cannot treat Allison’s voice that way. Filtering her vocals is like throwing the baby and keeping the bathwater.

I’ve kinda got past the disrespect for Cry Baby, but not so much on the “beg” and “this one” comments.

“This One” has a name, and her name is — SUPERSTAR!

    (Hopefully)

What do you think about what Allison was wearing in LA? More to your liking?

Other than Michael Jackson week, as jordison mentioned, she did do an Aerosmith song, “Don’t Wanna Miss a Thing”. I know girls have sang it though. But the version I typically think of is the Aerosmith one.

  132. Shopping in the men’s department for Michael Jackson was kinda forced on her, since it was Michael Jackson week. But yeah, there’s the Aerosmith one, as well as Papa.

About the Cry Baby disrespect during rock week, I just figured it was that she and Kris were posing a serious threat to the show’s two TCOs, and they wanted to make sure that one of them went home so that they could keep their dream of the TCO finale alive. Kudos to Kris for screwing that up.

She was wearing different clothes in LA? Didn’t notice — another geek fail — my twitter is NonVisualMan, after all…

  133. jordison, that rehearsal video is awesome!

Cry Baby was fantastic. I’d say that’s our confirmation that Zoux was indeed screwing it up in Memphis. But setting that aside, I LOVE the way he plays it. They should record the two of them doing it that way — it’s just wonderful.

Really cool to hear that little bit of DWTP harmony.

Very funny bits too. Sounded like she was making up fake lyrics for DWTP, but I couldn’t tell what they were. Reminded me of “Sweet Loretta Fat, she thought she was a cleaner, but she was a frying pan” — a gold star to the first person to identify who sang that and when!

  134. Rub: JohnM, I think these guys can tear up the stage, I’ve seen them before in doing research, especially Priscilla and her fire.

Yeah, I remember watching the Fire At Play videos and thinking she was a pretty good frontwoman. I agree that it’s probably jitters. Watching her in particular, it feels to me like she’s concentrating on making sure she plays everything correctly. Probably just needs the bunch of reps.

  135. Shouldn’t Slow Ride count as shopping in the men’s department? How about Someone to watch over me? Wasn’t it made popular by Frank Sinatra?

Yes LoveDaRocker, I guess folks have proven you wrong on your statement above.

You are in trouble now. That was alli lurker. Maybe he/she doesn’t mind this time :-).
And, to alli lurker’s defense, the main point of the post was to note that Alli should have gotten some other song. The men’s department quote wasn’t all that important.

I hope you guys realize that this was a joke. I don’t care one bit about the men’s department controversy. Just having a little fun.

  140. Me too. The “trouble” comment was because you attributed to me an alli lurker post.

  141. Yes LoveDaRocker, I guess folks have proven you wrong on your statement above.

(ETA: Wait, were you talking to me or LoveDaRocker?) Yikes, I guess so! Didn’t really think that one through… I guess the point I was trying to make was that I didn’t feel like Allison generally chose a ‘man’s’ song (like Danny and Hero, Danny and Carrie Underwood) so that she could easily ‘make it her own’. On rock night it seemed like the rules were that the song had to be pre-1970 and there weren’t too many female songs available, so maybe she would have had more choices had she gone to the man’s dept.

What do you think about what Allison was wearing in LA? More to your liking?

Not bad, a little rough. I really liked the Memphis outfit. What did you think jordison? And don’t you live in LA? Did you go?

ETA: Are you asking cuz the ripped jeans magically appeared?

Maybe they could use it next season. I heard the numbers were down for this season.

OK, addressing that to LoveDaRocker was just meant as a little joke because of previous incidents of misidentification of posting authors (i.e., you vs LoveDaRocker). The subject really was irrelevant to me as it seems like the discussion had gone its course, but I was curious as to your reaction.

I was just curious, because you commented on Alli’s appearance on GMA, and that you were hoping that she would wear something on Ellen not quite as “rocker chick” – like just some jeans. Since she was wearing jeans in LA I was curious if this was the look you had in mind. This isn’t something that I would normally focus on, but was curious as to your opinion.

I live in the LA area, but unfortunately was not able to go. Really, really would have liked to have gone, but it wouldn’t have been fair to my wife, who has some health issues.
