Alejandro Aranda who goes by the moniker Scarypoolparty had some truly scary news to report on Sunday (Nov 27).

The American Idol season 17 runner-up was on his way to play a concert in Houston when his van was hit by a car.

“Hey everyone I am so sad to announce that the show tonight in Houston is canceled. You can check with the venue for refunds,” Alejandro wrote on Instagram. “My team and I were getting ready to travel to Houston and we [were] hit by someone who ran a red light. We got hit so hard it totaled our van.”

“Truly blessed to have another day to breathe”

After fans expressed concern, the singer-songwriter followed up with a message on Twitter. “Everyone is okay,” Alejandro wrote. “And we are alive Truly blessed to have another day to breathe. Legit the scariest day I ever experienced.”

The tour had only begun a few days before on November 25 in Dallas, Texas. It was the third night of a 16 date run of West coast cities. The final show is scheduled for December 16 in Oakland, California.

Back in September, Alejandro cancelled a bunch of acoustic tour dates. “Unfortunately, we are postponing the remaining unplugged tour dates. Reach out to your point of purchase for more info. I promise to get back out on the road very soon,” he wrote in a message to fans.

Alejandro has not revealed whether or not the tour will continue. He and his team will need to find another way to travel to tour venues. But the important thing is that nobody got hurt.

Alejandro shares his struggles on social media

In October, the singer shared a heartfelt message about his struggles with weight and self-image.

“To be honest, I’ve always struggled with my weight and overall outlook on life,” Alejandro wrote. “When I get stressed I binge eat and treat myself poorly. Every little problem I have I overreact and freak out and put it out on the table and it causes me to feel like I’m meant to fail.”

Anxiety and self-image have been issues for most of Alejandro’s life. “Since I was a kid I’ve always struggled with a positive mentality.”

His life is better, but Alejandro shares that he still struggles. “There are days when I still get back into that mentality. And honestly I just wanted to say that I don’t want to do that anymore. And the past couple of years I’ve been really really trying to change my outlook on life and bring down that wall.”
