Adam Lambert pleased to meet Kate Middleton at ‘Together at Christmas’ concert
Adam Lambert recently performed at Kate Middleton’s Together At Christmas carol concert. The American Idol alum was among several artists who appeared at the Princess of Wales’ third annual Christmas carol service, which was held at Westminster Abbey last Friday (Dec 8).
“I had the honor of meeting Catherine, Princess of Wales,” Adam shared with People magazine. She invited the performers she wanted to see at the service, and it was lovely to visit with her before we performed.”
Adam joined forces with British singer-songwriter Beverly Knight to perform a duet of “The Christmas Song” before Prince William delivered a Bible reading. The event took place inside Westminster Abbey where Kate and William were married in 2011. King Charles was crowned at Abbey in May.
Unlike the usual raucous crowds Adam performs in front of as a solo rock act and as Queen frontman, the atmosphere was very hushed as he performed. “Very still, which added a calmness to my energy. The song felt sort of like a lullaby,” he told People.
“I’ve always loved history and old architecture, and this is sort of my sweet spot,” Adam said of the grand setting. “I was able to walk around a little bit after my rehearsal and just kind of take a little self-guided tour of some of the areas inside at the Abbey and it’s just breathtaking, and the amount of history in here is nuts,” he gushed. “You know you have the tombs of monarchs and poets and other iconic historical figures, so it’s pretty wild.”
“It’s such an honor to be performing at the Westminster Abbey, a place that I’ve seen on television and in photos for years but have never been to myself, so it is quite breathtaking.”
The “Together at Christmas” concert will air on UK’s ITV and ITVX on Christmas Eve
Adam was pretty excited about meeting the royal family face to face.
“I’ve performed for the royals during the Queen’s Jubilee but they were quite far away on the other side of the crowd,” he said. “So this will be sort of up close and personal and hopefully bringing Christmas cheer to people that tune in on Christmas Eve.” Queen + Adam Lambert performed in front of Buckingham Palace in June 22 to honor Queen Elizabeth’s 70 year jubilee.
The Together At Christmas was limited to a small guest list of a couple thousand. However, the event will air on Christmas eve on the UK channel ITV and stream on ITVX. Of course, fans will post videos to Youtube, most likely.
“It’s a really flattering invite to receive from Princess Kate, to come and sing at this special event,” Adam said.
