Queen + Adam Lambert Majestic Open for Platinum Party at the Palace

Queen + Adam Lambert Party at the Palace

The United Kingdom celebrated 70 years of Queen Elizabeth II with the Platinum Jubilee, a four day celebration of the queen’s long reign. The Platinum Party at the Palace, a pop culture concert which took place on Saturday (June 4), served as a major highlight of the festivities.

Queen + Adam Lambert kicked off the show in majestic style. With Buckingham Palace as a backdrop, the band performed in front of thousands of cheering well-wishers. As a line of drummers played the iconic and unmistakable opening beats of “We Will Rock You” Adam Lambert immediately took command of the stage, while guitarist Brian May eventually emerged in a cloud of smoke to play the song’s familiar guitar solo.

Next, the band performed a rousing and celebratory rendition of “Don’t Stop Me Now. The set ended with a triumphant rendition of “We Are the Champions.”

Andrea Bocelli, Lin Manuel-Miranda, Duran Duran and Nile Rodgers, Alicia Keys (who wore sparkly eyeshadow. liner and false lashes for the occasion!), Elton John (Who recorded a lovely version of “Your Song” in the palace’s red room) and more also took the stage. Diana Ross closed the concert in grand diva fashion. Additionally, Princes Charles and William gave touching speeches.

The bit with the Queen and Paddington Bear tapping out the “We Will Rock You” beat on their teacups ends a cute video clip that opened the concert. The Queen and Paddington Bear have tea. After Paddington causes several mishaps, he offers her  the spare marmalade sandwich he keeps in his hat. The queen opens her purse to reveal that she hoards marmalade sandwiches too!

The 96 year old queen sat out most of the weekend’s festivities due to mobility issues. But aside from the opening clip, she also delivered a pre-taped speech.

IT’S VERY CUTE
