The List
The following Song Spoiler list is being announced on radio stations, including DC, Portland and NYC. Ryan Seacrest has also announced the song choices on his radio program. So, peeps, I’m thinking this ain’t a goof. Here they are (first song is birth year, second song is Top 10 Billboard):
Paris Bennett — “Kiss” by Prince (Tom Jones in 1988) and “Be Without You” by Mary J. Blige.
Katharine McPhee — “Against All Odds” by Phil Collins and “Black Horse and Cherry Tree” by KT Tunstall
Taylor Hicks — “Play that Funky Music” by Wild Cherry and “Something” by the Beatles (George Harrison wrote this one)
Elliot Yamin — “On Broadway” by George Benson and “Home” by Micheal Buble
Chris Daughtry — “Renegade” by Styx and “I Dare You” by Shinedown
The Beatles “1” album is on the Top 10 pop albums chart currently. Although I thought the song itself had to be Top 10? All the other songs meet the criteria in one way or another.
I had other sources for Elliott’s Michael Buble song “Home” (eta: which I’m hearing isn’t on the charts either…but the album is) and Paris’s Prince song “Kiss”. “Against All Odds” and “Play that Funky Music” were both on the fake spoiler list that made its way around the boards yesterday. (The authors of that list may be psychic…heh)
About Beatles songs being cleared: True, “Here, There and Everywhere” was cleared Season 2. None have been cleared since. “Imagine” is a John Lennon solo song, not a Beatles tune. And for that matter, “Something” is a George Harrison song. George, and now his heirs own the publishing rights to his songs.
thanks to all who are posting clues and tidbits of information in the comments section. It really helps…
