10, 000 line up at Cowboys Stadium for ‘American Idol’ Auditions

American Idol auditions took place at Cowboys stadium in Arlington, TX today:

ARLINGTON ‘ It’s a marriage made in heaven: The new Cowboys Stadium looks like a giant aquarium, and American Idol is the biggest whale in pop culture.

The power of that synergy was on display in the pre-dawn darkness Friday as a thick swath of people waited on the yet-to-be sunbaked sidewalk outside the stadium.

“We estimate the turnout at at least 10, 000, ” said Patrick Lynn, Idol’s supervising producer. “It’s way bigger than we expected, and I think that has a lot to do with being here and the excitement over the new stadium.”

Idol producer, Patrick Lynn says they’re looking for more than just good singers, “Originality, that’s what we’re looking for, ” Lynn says. “I can’t really say what it is exactly, but you know it when you see it.”

“We’re looking for good singers, but we’re also trying to put together a really good show. So we want passion. Sometimes it’s good, sometimes it’s bad, but that’s what we’re looking for, ” says Lynn.

Dallas is the fourth stop of the Season 9 audition tour.   Check out the numbers:

  • Boston – 7, 000
  • Atlanta – 10, 000
  • Chicago – 12, 000
  • Dallas – 10, 000

Jason Castro’s brother Michael Castro, was supposedly auditioning today.   He made it to Hollywood last year, getting cut right before the mansion episode.   So far, no reports of sightings…
