American Idol ratings sink into the mid-2s. No doubt, the ratings would be higher, but for the Olympics. But, Will the show make a ratings comeback next week?

It was another clean sweep for The Winter Olympics on NBC (so what else is new?), with a 13.3 rating/21 share in the household overnights (peaking in the 9:30 p.m. half-hour at a 14.6/22). Next was “American Idol” on Fox, featuring the top 15 male performers, at a 6.7/10 from 8-10 p.m. Comparably (and without the Winter Olympics in the mix), that was 28 percent below the 9.3/15 one year earlier.

On FOX American Idol earned a 2.6 down 24 percent from last Wednesday’s 3.4 adults 18-49 rating and down 4 percent from a 2.7 for Tuesday’s performance episode.
On NBC, coverage of the Winter Olympic Games continued with a 5.0 adults 18-49 rating, down 9 percent from a 5.5 for the comparable night of the Winter Olympics in 2010 and down 11 percent from last week’s 5.6.
