“Nessun Dorma” is the aria from the last act of Giacomo Puccini’s Turandot and got exposure to a general audience in 1990 when Luciano Pavarotti performed it during the World Cup, which was held in Italy that year.
Brian May shared footage of the performance on Instagram after the show. He wrote: “A spontaneous gift to Bologna last night. So proud of Adam. I can see our dear departed friend Luciano smiling. Let’s Rock tonight”
The performance is also all over Youtube. Watch it below. The American Idol alum sings most of the song a capella with stunning operatic flair. Brian and the rest of Queen join in near the end of the performance to add some rock star glitter to the piece.
Queen + Adam Lambert also played the operatic cover the following night during the band’s second show at the Unipol Arena. Adam has performed the song live before. For instance, Adam delivered the song a cappella style at a private event in Florence Italy in 2019.
Currently, the band is in the midst of a massive European tour, which started off in the UK. Triumphantly, they played a set in front of Buckingham Palace last month to celebrate Queen Elizabeth’s Platinum Jubilee.
