The Voice 7: Anita Antoinette, Reagan Taylor Exit Interviews

The Voice - Season 7 - Top 12 - Anita Antoinette The Voice - Season 7 - Top 12 - Reagan James

In my opinion, they both left too soon, but eliminated contestants, Anita Antoinette and Reagan Taylor, have no regrets about their time as contestants on The Voice, as you’ll see in their upbeat official exit interviews.

Anita Antoinette

Reggae singer, and Berklee student, Anita Antoinette says that the overall experience has been “incredible.” The Voice experience helped Anita see that she loves seeing people being inspired to be themselves and to be “their own light.”  A soft-spoken and sensitive soul, the Jamaica native wants to use music as a platform to help people.

Anita went from no chairs turning when she auditioned in season 3, to all 4 chairs turning in season 7.  She was “praying to God” to just make it past the blind auditions, so making it to the live shows was an amazing accomplishment for her.  Anita says that her coach, Gwen Stefani, “has the type of energy I [am] drawn to. She is so sweet and so genuine.”

The greatest piece of advice that Gwen gave to Anita was to “Do you. Be you.”  The singer learned so much from the experience. “I know what I need as a human being and as a musician,” she says, ” That’s perfect.”

Reagan James

Texas native, Reagan James, just passed her sixteenth birthday while she was on The Voice. She was the youngest contestant EVER to make the live shows. As young as she is, she feels she gained years of experience in the process. Reagan feels “completely and utterly blessed and grateful”  and truly believes The Voice is “only the beginning” for her music career.

Reagan says her relationship with coach Blake Shelton was not only that of a student and teacher, but a friendship as well. “There’s so many factors that make our relationship special,” says Reagan. “And it’s not over.”  Blake  is known to nurture his charges long after they leave the competition. No doubt he’ll stay in touch.

The young singer already had a philosophy about music going into The Voice, but the competition only reinforced it. “I’ve always seen music as a very personal thing,” says Reagan. “It’s all about connections. It’s all about how…you can draw people in.”
