UPDATE: The Voice beat DWTS in both viewers and in the demo last night. The Season 5 premiere was the highest rated premiere, other than its post Super Bowl premiere. The Voice audience rose each half hour. It also beat the How I Met Your Mother premiere in the time period.
The Voice was up 12% in household viewers compared to last year. Although Dancing with the Stars had more viewers, expect The Voice to post higher numbers in the 19-49 demo. I’ll update this post with those numbers as soon as they are available

ABC and NBC opened the new season tied for No. 1 in the overnights, but NBC’s combination of the season-premiere of “The Voice” and the series-premiere of “The Blacklist” will win the evening with ease in all key demographics. Two-hours of “The Voice” scored a 9.2 rating/14 share in the overnights from 8-10 p.m., which was a close second behind competing “Dancing With the Stars” on ABC (9.4/14). Comparably, that was 12 percent above two hours of “The Voice” on the year-ago evening, which translated into 12.18 million viewers and s 4.4 rating/11 share among adults 18-49 (based on the live plus same day data).

On NBC, The Voice season 5 premiere earned a 4.9, up from last fall’s 4.2 and last spring’s 4.8 adults 18-49 rating, and the highest Voice premiere premiere since the post-Super Bowl start of the second seasonon Feb. 5, 2012.
On ABC, Dancing with the Stars fell to a 2.3 from last week’s 3.1 adults 18-49 rating .
