With 61.81% of reports in, Jack Johnson (singer-songwriter) looks destined to take ownership of the top of the chart. This is Jack’s 6th studio album and his fourth number 1.
Behind him is a pack of Country artists, eagerly nipping at his heels. Justin Moore (representing Scott’s Big Machine. Scott is increasingly linked to The Voice and the only one who appears to be having some success promoting Voice artists) is debuting in 2nd, Chris Young (winner of the 4th season of Nashville Star) is 3rd and Luke Bryan is going to have to start paying taxes on the 4th slot of the HDD chart because he has been parked there so long. Other Country artists in the top 10 are last week’s number one (and Idol Judge) Keith Urban at 6th and Billy Currington debuting in 8th.
Avicii is set to have the highest debut album for a solo EDM artist in the Soundscan era according to Billboard (EDM started in the 70s, well before 1991). Of course “solo” artist in the EDM genre doesn’t mean what it means in many others. Avicci is a DJ/producer and collaborates with other artists, most notably singers, to generate an album. One of the artists featured on this album is American Idol’s Adam Lambert (runner-up, Season 8).
The top 10 is rounded out by Urban/UAC artsits. MMG Presents (a collection of Rap/Hip-Hop songs from various artists) is debuting in 7th, Robin Thicked blurring the lines at number 9 and Tamara Braxton at 10th.
One Direction’s “Take Me Home” represents the X-Factor at number 42.
