Singer, Samantha Johnson, a New Bedford, Massachusetts native, advanced to the next round of America’s Got Talent on Tuesday night. She closed the show with a gorgeous cover of Sam Smith’s “Lay Me Down.”

Guest judge, Neil Patrick Harris pulled a little fake out while critiquing the singer, wording his remarks as if he was going to reject her. Psych! All 5 judges judges praised her. Seven acts moved on to the next round. Samantha was the only singer out of the 20 acts to advance.

What you may not know: Samantha has performed all over the world as part of Thriller Live, a Michael Jackson musical which has been a smash hit for years in London’s West End. She describes herself on her twitter page as a “singer, actress, flautist, whistler, impressionist/comedienne.”

Interestingly, Rebecca told South Coast Today that she tried out for American Idol a couple of times in the past, but didn’t get far in the process.

An accomplished and experienced singer, expect Samantha to go deep in the competition.
