The Voice’s Gwen Stefani Believes 1st Country No 1 Helps Woo Artists

Gwen Stefani dropped by the Jimmy Kimmel show (virtually of course!) for a chat with guest host Dua Lipa. When Dua asked Gwen what it felt like to have her first No. 1 country hit, “Nobody But You,” with her boyfriend and fellow The Voice coach, Blake Shelton, the singer gushed. “That felt crazy!”

But she also figures she can use the accomplishment when convincing artists to join her team on The Voice.

TAKE THAT John Legend!

“It’s almost like it’s a little bit full circle,” Gwen said of the No 1 feat. “because I think the first concert that ever went to…my parents took me up to L.A. and we saw Emmylou Harris which is a country artist, because my dad listened to a lot of Bluegrass and they did a lot of  festivals and stuff like that when I was a kid,” Gwen added, “but now to be actually on a song and then get to be a number one at this point in my career… I feel like I can like really use it on The Voice this season.

Gwen continued, “Because you have to like pitch yourself. I always really have a hard time with that. So…I got to be in alternative radio then I got pop and now I’m in country. I’m like…try to compete with that John! Because I’m sitting between John Legend and Kelly Clarkson [on The Voice panel] so I’m always [trying] beat them.”

Actually, Gwen has already had the chance to put her latest chart achievement to work. The Voice season 19 Blind Auditions took place at Universal Studios earlier this month, with a remote audience watching from all over the country.

OOPS Dua Lipa thinks Gwen Stefani and Blake Shelton are Married?

Going viral from the interview, however, is when Dua identified Blake as Gwen’s husband. But the singer handled the gaffe gracefully.

“So I heard that you’ve been spending quarantine with your husband, Blake Shelton, at the ranch in Oklahoma,” Dua asked matter-of-factly. “Who else was with you? How was that?”

Gwen answered, not skipping a beat.

“Um … well, he’s not my husband,” she said of Blake. “But that sounded cool when you said it!”

The Voice will return to NBC this fall. However, no premiere date has been announced yet.
