The Voice season 3 winner Cassadee Pope did the Halloween thing on Wednesday’s Pickler & Ben. The show is hosted by American Idol season 6 alum Kellie Pickler and Ben Aaron. With Cassadee and Kellie both being country singers and former reality show contestants, they had a few things to chat about.
“It changed my life,” Cassadee said of The Voice. “It was such a huge platform for my career. It brought me to Nashville. I knew I wanted to do country music and it was just this great “in” where I got put in these amazing rooms with these great songwriters. The community just embraced me. I have the show to thank for all of it.”
As far as her The Voice coach, Blake Shelton is concerned, Cassadee says, “He’s conducted his career so well. It’s great to watch him and observe him because he’s so sweet to people. In front of the camera, behind the camera, he’s nice to everybody. He’s a good person to model my career after.”
Cassadee explained that she chose Blake as her coach because she new he would let her do her thing. “He’s a cheerleader, he is hands-on, but he’s also ‘What is in your gut, what do you want to do?'” She added, “You’re not afraid to speak your mind with him, either.”
Regarding her transition from alternative rock to country, Cassadee says she sang country as a kid. But after the country songs she covered on The Voice went over well, it clicked. “Oh, I think this is where I want to be,” Cassadee thought at the time. “I went back to my roots, really.”
The signer is currently writing a new album. “It’s all coming together,” Cassadee says of the project. “It covers all the different stages of my life, all the different things I’ve gone through.” she explained, “There’s songs about heartbreak, songs about love and excitement. I did it with my producer Corey Crowder who did my last EP.” She added, “It’s still me, it’s still the same sound, but just a lot more revealing lyrics.”
Cassadee Pope performs her single “One More Stop Light” dressed as Khaleesi from Game of Thrones. Kellie and Ben are dressed as the couple from the classic FOX 80’s sitcom Married with Children.
