The Voice Season 22 to Feature BIG Format Changes (Spoiler)

Blake Shelton, Gwen Stefani, John Legend, Camila Cabello - The Voice Season 22

The Voice season 22 will reportedly feature big format changes this season. And by BIG, we mean a supersized field of contestants.

According to Idol Forums spoilers, and as we previously reported, the Blind Auditions will result in 56 acts instead of the typical 48. That’s 14 team members each for Team Blake Shelton, Team Gwen Stefani, Team John Legend and Team Camila Cabello.

How to accommodate 8 more singers without extending the season? More montages, probably! But also, the Knockout Round will see a BIG shakeup!

NBC has NOT confirmed these format changes. However, Idol Forums ARE reliable spoilers.

The Battle Rounds will feature 28 matchups

Of course, before the Knockout Round, is the Battle Round. The spoilers report that the Battle Round format remains the same. Each coach will pair up two contestants to sing a duet. Each team will feature 7 duets for a total of 28. After the performance, the respective coach will choose a winner. Each coach gets a steal and a save. At the end of the round, 36 contestants will remain, 9 on each team.

The Knockout will feature 9 acts per team and a 3-way Knockout!

With each team comprising an odd number of acts, one solutions is to completely change it up. Instead of two acts going toe to toe performing a song of their choice, THREE acts will each sing a solo, competing for ONE spot. Each team will feature three 3-way Knockouts. Additionally, each coach gets a steal.

Ultimately, a Top 16 will emerge from the round. What happens next? Probably the Live Playoffs. But who knows, the format COULD continue changing!

The Voice season 22 coaches panel will feature new and old faces

Blake Shelton is the only coach who has been with the show since the beginning. His wife, Gwen Stefani returns to the panel after longtime coach Kelly Clarkson took the summer off to be with her kids. John Legend also returns to the panel. And former X Factor USA contestant, Fifth Harmony member and current pop star Camila Cabello is this season’s rookie. Carson Daly, Blake’s fellow veteran, returns as host.

New coach, Camila Cabello got her start in the music business as a teen auditioning for Simon Cowell’s X Factor USA in 2012. Although she passed her audition as a solo, eventually she was placed in a five-member girl group, Fifth Harmony. While the quintet did not win and finished in third place, they went on to become the short-lived competition’s most successful act. Fifth Harmony released several albums, and hit songs such as “Worth It” and “Work From Home.”

The Cuban born singer moved on to a solo career in 2016, after which she released pop hits such as “Crying in the Club” and duet “Senorita” with Shawn Mendes. Fifth Harmony broke up the following year.

The Voice season 22 premieres on NBC Monday September 19 and Tuesday September 29 at 8 pm.
