The Voice 27 Battles: Britton Moore and Darius J stunning “Creep” makes it tough on Adam Levine
The Voice season 27 Battles kick off on Monday (March 10). During the Blind Auditions, each of the coaches built their teams of 12 artists. Now it’s time to pit team members against each other in the Battle Rounds. NBC has leaked a battle between Team Adam Levine members Britton Moore and Darius J. The two singers perform “Creep,” the classic song from Radiohead.
Additionally, each of the coaches will work with a celebrity advisor during rehearsals. Adam enlisted actress and singer, Kate Hudson.
Both singers bring a level of theatricality to their performances. Darius J in particular is almost menacing in the way he delivers his vocal. The two harmonize and it feels off-kilter, but for this particular song, it works.
Michael describes Darius as a “less sweary Gordon Ramsay”
Kelsea Ballerini calls the number “magical” and hints she’d like to steal the loser. “Darius, there’s no one like you,” she says. “So individual in your voice. All these little runs and when you fall off of them, it’s just so yummy and so you.” She tells Britton, “You’re like the boy next door. You make people really want to root for you, because they feel like they can knock on your door and sit on the front porch and play guitar and sing along.”
“I’m a sucker for entertainers, Darius,” Michael Bublé states. “It’s like a chef who loves what he’s cooking, but even more loves who he’s cooking for.” Michael describes Darius as a “less sweary Gordon Ramsay.” He adds, “At like one point, I was like, ‘Oh yeah, that’s Darius, that’s Adam’s guy, of course’.” Michael tells Britton, “You hit that top note and I was ‘Oh no, Adam Levine, what are you going to do?'” Like Kelsea, Michael will not pick a favorite. He also hints at stealing the loser.
John Legend calls Darius a “presence” adding, “I thought you made some really creative choices with how you styled the song. It really makes you stand out as an artist.” To Britton, John says, “Your voice was so connected and powerful. That high note was stunning.” He continues, “I really enjoyed your tone. It made me want to listen to you.” John would choose Britton.
“The harder you make it for us, the better you did”
Adam mentions that the duo needed work in rehearsals. “When we got together and workshopped what we were going to do, you guys came to the table and you executed it so beautifully.” Adam adds, “I want you guys to know how super proud of you I am.” After the performance, Adam feels like the decision is impossible. “The harder you make it for us, the better you did.”
