The Voice 18: Mike Jerel’s Effortless Blind Audition Gets 4 Chairs (Video)

Mike Jerel The Voice Blind Audition

Watch The Voice coaches, Blake Shelton, Kelly Clarkson, John Legend and Nick Jonas fight over Mike Jerel. The R&B artist eventually gets a four chair turn after delivering a soulful version of James Brown’s “It’s a Man’s, Man’s, Man’s World” during the Blind Auditions.

The 31 year old artist from Georgia accompanies himself on piano. He seems like the perfect artist to land on Team Legend. But the rest of the coaches try to convince him otherwise. “If I were in your shoes, I would pick John,” says Nick, employing reverse psychology. “Wouldn’t it be nice to win the competition, knowing you made the choice that nobody expected!”

While Nick is good at pitching artists, John counters, Mike might consider choosing a coach who has won the show before. Of course, Kelly and Blake immediately raise their hands. Kelly observes that “every pianist that comes out here” is going to be on John’s team. She adds that if he wants to stand out, her team is the perfect place. “It’s an open lane, Mike!” Kelly says.

John insists that Mike isn’t a “lane filler” but a “category breaker.” He adds, “You are you and you have the ability to win this competition if you keep doing what you did today.”

But then momma comes out on stage with her opinion. She simply says, “John.” Welp. I think this artist battle is over! Tune in to The Voice on NBC Monday (March 9) at 8 pm ET/PT to find out if Mike takes his mother’s advice!
