In case you were wondering if The Voice would bring back the twitter Insta-Save for season 10–of course they are! And this new video confirms what ya’ll probably assumed.
The video doesn’t go into much detail. As the twitter logo flashes, the voice over commands, “Save your favorite artists LIVE! And give them a second chance…” The next clip is Daniel Passino delivering a very loud and nasal high note. Fair warning.
However, we do know the the format of the live finals will be the same as last season. One contestant will be eliminated every week until at least the Top 9. Check out the schedule.
According to an NBC press release, on Tuesday’s results show, 10 singers will be saved by America’s vote, while the bottom 2 sing for the save. Then it’s time to put your twitter skillz into action: #voicesavewhoever. The singer who earns the highest number of twitter votes, cast in a 5 minute window, lives to sing another week. The other singer heads home. Sads.
Sorry to those, like me, who hate the Insta-Save. It’s probably here to stay. NBC loves the social media engagement so much, they are OK with handing over elimination decisions to a tiny subset of fans on the east coast. Once again, west coast fans who are probably stuck at work or just getting home from work at the 5-6 pm hour. You don’t get a say!
Eta: Also if you don’t do Twitter too bad for you, regardless of where you live. Also there is that thing where mediocre contestants coughkorinbukowskiryansillcoughcough are saved over and over again.
The Voice is live next week. Twelve singers perform for your votes on Monday April 18. One contestant is eliminated after the insta-vote on Tuesday April 19.
