The Voice 10 Schedule: The Blood Bath Returns!

Thanks to Vinny for alerting me to this Zap2it schedule which has the FULL The Voice 10 schedule posted. Some of you will not be happy to hear that it appears the sudden death round is back. The Voice Spring edition has one more week than the fall cycle. Instead of the Top 9 taking place the week before the final, it will take place a week before the semifinal.  The schedule doesn’t reveal how many contestants will compete in the penultimate round.  It could be anywhere from eight to four.  To lessen the blow, there could be a double or triple elimination at Top 9 and another double or triple at the semifinal.

But something tells me the producers will repeat last season’s multiple-elimination blood bath, which had FIVE contestants leaving the competition during the semifinal.  With the march of Jordan Smith to win the crown last season, nearly everything about the Live Finals was predictable. EXCEPT for that semi final round. It was brutal, but it was also…dare I say it…exciting. For the only time all season, who would stay and who would go wasn’t predictable. For instance, who imagined front runner, Amy Vascal. would not even have the opportunity to perform for the wild card? I understand it’s stressful for the contestants. And if your favorite is suddenly gone, it sucks. But it was good TV in many respects.

ETA: Many of you bring up the point how the format allows more artists to stay on the show longer. Even if they are cruelly taken away at the last minute, fans still get more of what they like. Also, there is no denying the excitement inherent in a high stakes situation that includes a do or die wildcard.

The rest of the season’s schedule is below. Click here for the FULL schedule, posted on the sidebar.

For Idol fans, Tuesday April 5th is a clip show, which means we can happily skip it to watch the American Dream special.
