Wednesday September 24 ratings:

The Masked Singer came back to what would be considered blockbuster ratings for any other network television show. But its 1.6 rating in the 18-49 demo tied for its lowest same-day number ever. It scored 5.92 million total viewers, which is down by 36 percent in adults 18-49 and 26 percent in viewers from its September 2019 premiere (2.5 and 8.02 million).

Meanwhile, the America’s Got Talent finale garnered the show’s best numbers in six weeks for NBC. The finale earned a 0.9 in adults 18-49 and 6.57 million viewers. The numbers are the highest for the show since Aug. 10. The finale fell 40 percent in the demo and 36 percent in viewers from a year ago (1.2/4.174) in the demo/10.21 total viewers).

Also outperforming America’s Got Talent Wednesday night: CBS’s Big Brother (1.2/4.174) and the new FOX game show airing after The Masked Singer, I Can See Your Voice (1.2/4.566)

Why did America’s Got Talent ratings dive this season? Could Simon Cowell’s absence after breaking his back in a bike accident have an impact? The season 15 ratings have been down compared to last summer all season. However, the ratings dipped below 1.0 at the live shows. But, both The Voice and American Idol dipped in the ratings when COVID-19 affected remote shows began.

Or maybe the bad publicity AGT received from the Gabrielle Union controversy. Now, she is suing NBC. The reasons for the ratings dive could be all of the above.
