The Masked Singer 11 Group B Premiere: Who Was Unmasked on Wizard of Oz night?

The Masked Singer season 11 continues on to week 2 and Group B premiere, with Nick Cannon as host, Robin Thicke, Jenny McCarthy, and Ken Jeong on the judging panel alongside new coach, Rita Ora.

The next four mystery celebrities include double-mask Beets, Gumball, Cleocatra, and Afghan Hound. One celebrity will be unmasked by the end of the night.

Returning The Masked Singer winner, Leann Rimes, performs.

The show opens with the cast, dressed as Oz characters, skipping along the “yellow brick road” to their seats. Next, season 4 winner Leann Rimes aka the Sun, sings “Over the Rainbow” which Judy Garland made famous in the 1939 movie. It’s the film’s 85th anniversary.

Gumball

Clues: He’s inspired by the Tin Man. Rusty just like him. FOX previewed Gumball over the weekend. Check out the performance HERE. American South. No direction. He did everything to get on stage. He beatboxed on the street. Got booed off the stage in a competition. He refused to quit.

Performance: Heartbeat Song by Kelly Clarkson – He starts off the performance in B&W with the classic “Only Had a Heart” from the movie. Then, in a burst of color, he kicks off a performance of Kelly Clarkson’s “Heartbeat Song.” He sounds a little Broadway, a little boy band. He’s a 30ish dude. Probably a Disney/Nickelodeon star? His costume dispenses gumballs, which he gave to Rita. On Stage Clue: Flying Monkey delivery! “What is my ex husband doing here?” asked Jenny. “Deep down at the end of the day, Tin Man always had the heart of a superhero.” Rita guesses Chace Crawford. Robin guesses Kevin Jonas, Ken guesses Jamie Dornan. Rita disagrees with Ken.

Prediction: The internets say Skylar Astin, but NONE of the clues fit. Others say Scott Porter, who starred in Friday Night Lights and has done a ton of voice work for Superhero series and games. He’s also from the south (Orlando) and got his start performing at theme parks. Porter is a good guess. Read THIS.

Cleocatra

Clues: “I’m the good witch” says Cleocatra. Long ago they were living in technicolor. Going from rainbows to horrendous black and white. People called them a National Treasure. But they felt. Wicked. A diagnosis changed everything.

Performance: Stormy Weather by Etta James – Not sure if Cleocatra is a girl or a guy. They sound older, like an old school diva. I feel like I should KNOW this voice, but can’t place it. This person sounds EXTREMELY old school. Like senior citizen old school. The performance is so over the top, they are screaming by the end. Kind of entertaining, though. On Stage Clue: Here comes the Wicked Witch bringing a star topped wand. “I’ve already worked my magic on an Emmy Award winning show.” Ken guesses Taraji P. Henson. NOOOO. Jenny guesses Sheralee Ralph. Robin guesses Loretta Devine.

Prediction: The internets are convinced that Cleocatra is veteran actress Jenifer Lewis who has starred on Broadway, Television and film. In 1990 Lewis was diagnosed with bipolar disorder, which points to the “diagnosis” hint that changed her life. She appeared in Different World, Blackish, and is set to appear in So Help Me Todd.

Afghan Hound

Clues: She’s inspired by the Cowardly Lion. She tells herself to be brave. Dreams came true for her and her family. They were together, until recently. Now she’s alone. She kept going. She admits she’s not a good singer.

Performance: The Lion Sleeps Tonight by The Tokens – She may be worse than Kevin Hart last week who was really BAD. She sounds like an Afghan Hound in pain. Great suffering pain. I smell an elimination. She’s so unserious, she starts cracking up. At least she’s not delusional and comes at the show with a good attitude and a sense of humor. Robin liked the song choice. The judges are never mean. On Stage Clue: Cowardly Lion badge of courage. ‘It takes courage to be on TV, especially the characters of my family.” Rita guesses Sistine Stallone. Ken guesses Olivia Jade. Jenny guesses Brooke Hogan. Afghan waves Jenny off.

Beets

Clues: TWO member costume! They two are friends. They have 40 million eyes on them. The world tried to pit them against each other. “We’re family.”

Performance: Home by Michael Buble – Whoever they are or whatever they actually do in showbusiness, they can sing. Nice harmonies. Very pro. They might actually BE singers (ETA: They are. See below) AW TOTO DELIVERS THE CLUE SO CUTE. “Like toto and dorothy we are the best of friends, and pretty good co-stars too.” Rita guesses Will Arnett and Jason Bateman. Hm. no. Ken guesses K-Ci and JoJo Booing ensues. Robin guesses Steve Martin and Martin Short. Uhm. Steve doesn’t sing.

Prediction: I needed a fan to point out that Beets are Ruben Studdard and Clay Aiken, American Idol winner and runner-up respectively. After watching the segment again, it’s clear. They sound just like them. Plus the clues: 40 million eyes on them (About that many watched the Idol finale in 2003), “Pitting against each other,” is about competing for the win. Also, one said that he was the “festy” one, while the other was laid back. That’s Clay and Ruben. They’ve been on tour all year celebrating 20 years since they competed on the show, and they truly are pals. See a full write-up HERE.

First Results with SMACKDOWN

The two singers with the least amount of votes are…Afghan Hound and Gumball. Cleocatra and the Beets are safe. The two masks sing “Ding Dong the Wicked Witch is Dead” in their own styles. For Afghan Hound, that includes caterwauling into the void! Gumball sings a song NOT in his style, but gets through it OK. However, he has an extremely low bar to beat. The panel will choose who is eliminated.

Who leaves the Masked Singer? Results

The celebrity mask taking the FINAL SPOT is…Gumball. Unsurprisingly, Afghan Hound is eliminated. Final guesses: Robin: Bethenny Frankel. Jenny: Brooke Hogan. Ken: Olivia Jade. Rita: Sistine Stallone. And Afghan Hound is Savannah Chrisley. Makes sense. She’s alone because her criminal parents are in the slammer. The show they’re from is the reality show Chrisley Knows Best. Oh. Her parents get TV privileges in jail and can watch her. It’s why she did it, she says.
