A new episode of The Amazing Race airs tonight on CBS. Read a live recap here.
The episode begins with Greg & John learning their next destination: Frankfurt, Germany. They stop by a travel agency to get their tickets. Everybody will be on the same flight. They will be driving themselves in the upcoming leg. We hear from some of the teams as they make their way to the airport. Corey says navigational skills will be important in this next leg, and Rob is looking forward to driving. Todd & Ashlie have been to Frankfurt before, so they are excited to return. Steve & Anna Leigh say the claws are coming out after being U-Turned in the last leg. Robbin’s late husband was stationed in Germany, so it’s emotional going back.
The teams must drive themselves to a ferry that will take them to the castle Burg Rheinstein. On the way there, Robbin & Chelsea miss their turn and Andrea & Malaina get lost too. Todd & Ashlie are the first team to reach the ferry, and Joel & Garrett and Morgan & Lena are right behind them. Steve & Anna Leigh arrive next. These teams board the ferry at the same time as Robbin & Chelsea drive right past the ferry.
Greg & John and Rob & Corey board the second ferry to Burg Rheinstein. Meanwhile, the four teams in the lead reach the next clue box. They learn they have a Roadblock to complete. One team member must pay the correct amount of Witten to receive their next clue. It’s a math task as they must calculate the formula to pay the right amount. Todd, Morgan, Anna Leigh, and Garrett do the Roadblock. Meanwhile, Robbin & Chelsea finally find the ferry. Morgan completes the Roadblock quickly. She and Lena can now make their way to the next location: Cologne, Germany. Once there, they must find Gürzenich Köln to find their next clue. Anna Leigh, Garrett, and Todd are the next to complete the Roadblock. After they leave, Greg & John and Rob & Corey arrive. Corey and John do the Roadblock. After they complete it quickly, Robbin & Chelsea arrive. Chelsea does the Roadblock. She couldn’t figure out the formula, so she uses trial and error until she correctly guesses fifteen coins. Meanwhile, Andrea & Malaina board a ferry, but it’s the wrong one.
The teams in the front make their way to Cologne, Germany. As they are driving themselves, Joel & Garrett remark how they’re lost. Robbin & Chelsea are following Greg & John. Ashlie is worried she and Todd are going the wrong way. Morgan & Lena bicker after Lena makes a wrong turn. Steve & Anna Leigh also argue after Anna Leigh says Steve isn’t helping her out enough with navigation while she’s driving.
Greg & John and Robbin & Chelsea find their next clue. Their next task is to participate in a Cologne Carnival. One team member must ride a horse tricycle while the other team member throws flowers. Afterwards, they will receive their next clue. Greg & John and Robbin & Chelsea complete it with no issues. Their next clue tells them to proceed to Hohenzollernbrücke. After they leave, Todd & Ashlie and Rob & Corey get started on the carnival task. Meanwhile, Andrea & Malaina are still lost trying to find Burg Rheinstein. Joel & Garrett stop to get directions, Morgan & Lena switch drivers, and Steve & Anna Leigh continue to bicker.
Greg & John must find a marked love lock on the bridge. Whoever didn’t do the previous Roadblock must do this one. Greg and Robbin get started on the Roadblock. They look through the thousands and thousands of locks to find one with the Amazing Race flag. Meanwhile, Steve & Anna Leigh complete the carnival task. They are currently in fifth place.
Greg finally finds a lock. He gets the next clue. He and John learn they have a Detour to complete next: Just For Kicks or Matter of Taste. Just For Kicks requires teams to play a game that’s a combination of soccer and darts. They will have to kick a soccer ball into a large dartboard and get an exact score of 66. Matter of Taste requires teams to identify mustard flavors by their German names. Greg & John choose Matter of Taste. After they leave, Ashlie gets started on the Roadblock. Robbin completes the Roadblock too, and she and Chelsea also choose Matter of Taste.
Andrea & Malaina finally get started on the Witten task. However, they boarded the wrong ferry, so they don’t have their bag of Witten. This will put them further behind, making it unlikely they’ll catch up and avoid elimination. Andrea & Malaina try to get the Witten back at the ferry, but they finally realize they took the wrong ferry.
Greg & John get started on the Matter of Taste Detour as Rob gets started on the locks Roadblock. Ashlie finds a lock, and she helps give Rob the answer to the number combination to unlock the lock too. Rob finds a lock soon afterwards. Todd & Ashlie and Rob & Corey choose the Just For Kicks Detour.
Steve & Anna Leigh arrive at Hohenzollernbrücke while Morgan & Lena complete the carnival task. Joel & Garrett get started on the carnival task just as Morgan & Lena leave. Meanwhile, Andrea & Malaina are still driving themselves to the correct ferry.
Todd & Ashlie get started on the Just For Kicks Detour. They must get an exact score of 66. Ashlie has never played darts or soccer, so she feels unprepared for this task. Meanwhile, Greg & John and Robbin & Chelsea are still working on the Matter of Taste Detour.
Todd & Ashlie choose to switch Detours. As they leave, Rob & Corey get started on the Just For Kicks Detour. Meanwhile, Greg & John complete the Matter of Taste Detour. They get their clue and learn they can make their way to the Pit Stop: Das Schokoladenmuseum.
Steve finds a lock, so now he and Ann Leigh can do the Detour next. They choose Matter of Taste. Meanwhile, Andrea & Malaina finally find the correct ferry on the way to Burg Rheinstein. Morgan & Lena and Joel & Garrett also arrive at Hohenzollernbrücke. Lena finds a lock quickly, and she and Morgan choose the Matter of Taste Detour. As they leave, Joel gets started on the locks Roadblock.
Robbin & Chelsea complete the Matter of Taste Detour. They can now make their way to the Pit Stop too. Greg & John are already there, and Phil gives them the good news. Greg & John are Team #1! They each win $4,000. While they’re still on the mat, Robbin & Chelsea arrive as Team #2. Meanwhile, Andrea finally gets started on the Witten Roadblock.
Todd & Ashlie complete the Matter of Taste Detour. Afterwards, we see Rob & Corey complete the Just For Kicks Detour. Both teams can make their way to the Pit Stop now. Steve & Anna Leigh are the next to complete the Matter of Taste Detour, and Morgan & Lena complete it right afterwards too.
Andrea completes the Witten Roadblock while Joel is still trying to find a lock at Hohenzollernbrücke. Joel is struggling with the task, but Andrea & Malaina are so far behind that it likely won’t matter. Joel finally finds a lock, and he and Garrett choose the Matter of Taste Detour.
Todd & Ashlie and Rob & Corey arrive at the Pit Stop as Team #3 and Team #4 respectively. Steve & Anna Leigh and Morgan & Lena arrive at the Pit Stop at the same time afterwards. Joel & Garrett complete the Matter of Taste Detour, and they believe they are in last place. However, they find out they are Team #7. They are shocked to find out they are still in the race.
Andrea & Malaina arrive at the carnival task, but everybody is already gone. Phil is there to let them know all the other teams have completed the leg and they are in last place. Andrea & Malaina have been eliminated from the race.
