American Idol 2024 drops its first promo during the 2023 CMA Awards
American Idol typically airs its first promo for the upcoming season during the Country Music Awards and the 2023 CMA Awards, which aired on ABC Nov 8, were no different.
While the American Idol CMA promo is usually country music centric, this years 30 second spot focused on hometowns. Specifically, the judges hometowns, where auditions are taking place in addition to Los Angeles and Nashville.

Additionally, in the new clip, fans get their FIRST GLIMPSE of the new contestants, which features a few familiar faces including The Voice’s Hailey Mia and X Factor UK alum Scarlett Lee. Hailey finished in fourth place for Team Kelly Clarkson on The Voice season 21 in the fall of 2021. Scarlet finished in 2nd place on The X Factor UK season 15 in 2018. also took part in showstoppers.
The American Idol 2024 judges auditions took place in each of the judges’ hometowns!
Hometowns for the judges means Luke Bryan heading home to Leesburg, Georgia, for Lionel Richie, it’s Tuskegee, Alabama, home of the HBCU Tuskegee University. And for Katy Perry, she grew up in Santa Barbara, California.
“American Idol goes all over the nation,” Luke says in the clips as he strides into his hometown’s high school gymnasium.
“The hometowns big and small,” he says, before Katy adds, “In search of America’s next superstar.”

American Idol season 22 premieres in February 2024
“Home is where the dream starts,” host Ryan Seacrest shares in the video, revealing what is likely the key art catchphrase for 2024. “American Idol is where the dream takes off.”
American Idol auditioned hopefuls in all 50 states, kicking off remote auditions on August 2. Last season Hawaii native Iam Tongi took home the big prize.
American Idol season 22 is set to premiere on ABC in February 2024.
