POP AND R&B PHENOM JUSTIN BIEBER TO APPEAR ON “SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE” TO INTRODUCE NEW COMPETITION ELEMENT: DANCE CREWS

Fans Can Vote for Favorite Dance Crews Via Twitter

Two-Hour Season 11 Premiere Airs this Wednesday, May 28, on FOX

In a brand new element on the hit competition series SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE, pop and R&B phenom Justin Bieber and his choreographer, Nick DeMoura, will introduce top dance crews from across the country that will vie for a spot on the season finale.

Beginning next week on the two-hour season premiere, airing Wednesday, May 28 (8:00-10:00 PM ET/PT) on FOX, Bieber and DeMoura will showcase two dance crews on each of the four audition episodes. After the crews are showcased, hash tags will be revealed that viewers can use to tweet their favorite of the two crews. The tweets will be tallied and the most popular crew overall will be invited to perform on the finale. Please check fox.com/dance for voting terms. Also, with almost 52 million followers, Bieber has extraordinary reach on Twitter, and fans can follow him @justinbieber.

SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE is hosted by Cat Deeley and features resident judges Nigel Lythgoe and Mary Murphy, as well as guest judges, including Jenna Dewan-Tatum (Atlanta), Billy Porter and Misty Copeland (Philadelphia), Wayne Brady (New Orleans), Jenna Elfman and Fabrice Calmels (Chicago) and Christina Applegate (Los Angeles). The new season of the Emmy Award-nominated hit dance competition series once again will include awe-inspiring performances, as well as nail-biting eliminations, as the contestants compete to be named America’s Favorite Dancer

Nigel Lythgoe discussed some other format changes in a recent conference call with reporters:

  • “We’re going back to the individual winner.” Nigel revealed “We’ve been quite lenient in the past and said, ‘Which is your favorite male, which is your favorite female,’ but we’re going to make America choose.”
  • Also Nigel explained how the eliminations will work this season: “From 20 to 10 exactly the same [as last season]: We’ll save one and then make our decision [on] who will be going home. The judges will do that…Then from ten to nine, the judges are going to drop out all together this season, and the lowest vote will go home.

Fans should be happy about getting the power back at the Top 10! Sir Mac will be live blogging SYTYCD again this season, so look out for that!
