‘American Idol’ Should Call It Quits After Next Season: Here’s Why – Bottom line is this: I know “Idol,” and so I feel perfectly comfortable saying that next season should be the show’s swan song. After 20 percent audience dips for the past three seasons and rapidly declining ratings, “Idol” has turned into that Facebook friend who keeps posting pics from high school and asking if you “remember that one time…” Yeah, I do. Get over it. It’s hard to kill the golden goose, but here are 4 tips how “Idol” should go 14 and done with dignity and style: – Read more at MTV

Why did people stop caring about “American Idol”? – What killed “American Idol”? While it’s tempting — and convincing enough — to extrapolate out a grander theory about the shrinking appeal of merit-based competitions as the Bush years gave way to economic collapse, “Idol” is a case unto itself. (“The Voice” is sinking in the ratings due to overuse, just as “Survivor” and “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire” before it; “The X-Factor” was from top to bottom a botch.) The series simply doesn’t have the right stuff to be a water-cooler hit in 2014. – Read more at Salon

As ‘American Idol’ ratings plummet further, let’s stop trying to reinvent this once-hot show – Enough reminiscing about the good old days, it’s time to face facts. No matter how the producers have tried to reinvent the show (new judges! twists! feuding divas!), the numbers have drastically slipped over time, shedding viewers nearly every year since 2008. Logic would tell us that it’s time to stop trying to make “American Idol” happen — except that it’s already been renewed for Season 14, and, honestly, Fox could do a lot worse than 6.6 million viewers these days. (Sorry, fake Prince Harry.) – Read more at The Washington Post

Jason Mraz Says ‘Yes’ to Writing with ‘American Idol’ Finalist Alex Preston – “I would not want to be a judge, but I was happy just visiting and lending some feedback,” he said. “Personally, I felt like I wasn’t being filmed that day because the cameras were far enough away I could really spend some time hanging out and have a good time.” Mraz said that in the future, he would love to work with Preston. “We have been talking back and forth about having him come down, do some writing and jam,” said the singer-songwriter. “I think it will work out.” Mraz said he has high hopes for the 21-year-old New Hampshire musician, but “he has to go to work.” – Read more at The Hollywood Reporter

Phillip Phillips’ advice to ‘American Idol’ winner Caleb Johnson: ‘Keep doing what you love’ – “I’m always nervous about it. It’s like the first album,” he says. “I don’t even like listening to my albums, but I have to practice because I’m about to go on tour. It’s weird listening to myself, if I could get my voice taken out and just to the music… But I’m excited and I think the album is awesome. It has a lot of personality to it, music-wise and lyrically. I just hope everyone else likes it.” Having gone through the “Idol” gauntlet himself, Phillips has some advice for newly crowned winner Caleb Johnson (and runner-up Jena Irene): “Keep doing what you love and know what you want out of your career as an artist and don’t worry about what anyone else says or thinks.” – Read more at Zap2it
