What the heck? Where were Susan Boyle’s handlers when she decided to dress in full American Indian garb, including a ceremonial headdress for a day out at a music festival. The Britain’s Got Talent sensation attended the T in the Park music festival on Sunday (July 12) at Strathallan Castle in Scotland, where her outfit did not go unnoticed.
I’m going to give Susan the benefit of the doubt. The singer was diagnosed on the autism spectrum, with Asperger’s Syndrome. One symptom is the missing of social cues. It’s probably safe to say she missed all those other times celebrities were taken to task for appropriating sacred native dress. It’s highly likely she had no idea the outfit is offensive to native folk, who hold their ceremonial garments sacred.
Holding her hand out in a stereotypical “How” gesture is not helping her cause one bit. Somebody should have marched her back into the house to pick out another outfit.
