Survivor Season 48 Week 2 Recap and Live Blog
The episode begins with the Vatu tribe lamenting Kyle’s medical evacuation. Genevieve felt really close to him. Q says his alliance with Colby, Genevieve, and Stephenie is down in votes, so they need to bring in Rizo as a number. Q and Colby recruit Rizo together, and he tells them he’ll be loyal to them until “the wheels fall off.” Meanwhile on the Cila tribe, Christian accidentally soiled himself. Joe and Emily can’t help themselves from laughing.
It’s time for the reward challenge. But first, the tribes react to Jenna’s elimination and Kyle’s medical evacuation. Kamilla breaks down in tears seeing that Kyle is gone. She and Kyle were close allies back in their first season. While the tribes are talking to Jeff, Coach takes the opportunity to clear his name. He heard Ozzy spoke negatively about him, and he calls him out. It’s an awkward moment, but Jeff is amused. Afterwards, the challenge begins.
The tribes must must leap off a platform and smash a hanging buoy. They must then take the buoy with a key attached, make their way across balance beams to another platform. One tribe member must dive into the water and release rings. Once they have three rings, they must toss them onto targets. The first two tribes to finish will win a camp improvement reward. The challenge is fairly even, but Vatu falls behind when Aubry fails to smash her target. Savannah and Jonathan release their rings for their tribes, putting them in the lead over Vatu. Eventually, Rick and Coach toss rings for their tribes. Rick lands the three rings first. Cila wins reward! Coach lands the third for Kalo afterwards. Kalo wins reward!
Later on the Vatu tribe, Aubry feels like she’s “on a tribe with lunatics.” She says the game is hard, and she struggles managing her energy expenditure. Aubry brings her bag with her everywhere around camp. As a result, Genevieve is suspicious that Aubry has a hidden immunity idol in her possession. While Aubry is away, the rest of the tribe discuss the possibility of her having an idol. Aubry is clearly on the outs of the tribe as the rest of them discuss searching through her bag. Stephenie distracts Aubry and Q acts as the lookout while Genevieve and Rizo look through Aubry’s bag. They find nothing.
On the Kalo tribe, Jonathan is doing his part to provide for the tribe. He’s catching lots of fish, and he wants to be useful for the tribe. However, he is determined to be more strategically savvy than he was in his previous season. He says Coach is his closest ally in the game. While Jonathan and Coach are swimming, Coach gets a cramp in his legs and must be taken back to shore by a crew member’s boat. Elsewhere on the tribe, Dee thinks Chrissy can be too much. Charlie likes Chrissy, but he notices that other tribe members are getting annoyed by her.
Back on the Cila tribe, Savannah doubles down that she didn’t get any advantages from the Journey. Savannah says she doesn’t trust anybody on the tribe yet. While Savannah and Rick are talking, Ozzy approaches them. Ozzy pitches an alliance with the three of them and Joe. In his confessional, Rick says he already has alliances with other people on the tribe. He thinks Ozzy could be on the chopping block, but he admits he’d rather see Joe go. Rick whispers something to Savannah in front of Joe, which bothers Joe. Joe asks him about it, and Joe notices how awkwardly Rick answered him. Later, Rick talks to Cirie and Christian about Joe. Rick wants to exclude Joe from the plan, and Christian and Cirie agree that Joe is someone they need to play around.
Later, Christian stumbles upon the Billie Eilish Boomerang Idol. He weighs the pros and cons of whom to send it to. He decides to send it to Aubry. Aubry breaks down in tears when she finds out someone sent her an idol.
Back on Vatu, Q says he likes Rizo, but he thinks Rizo is too lazy around camp. Angelina and Aubry aren’t very helpful either. Q, Colby, Genevieve, and Stephenie do most of the hard work around camp. In his confessional, Rizo says he didn’t come back to Survivor for the camp life. He cares more about the strategic game.
It’s time for the immunity challenge. They must race out into the jungle to retrieve a giant snake in pairs. Once they get all three snakes, they must maneuver a ball around a winding snake track. The first two tribes to finish will win immunity. The challenge begins, and Kalo takes the early lead thanks to Jonathan. Vatu is currently in last place with Rizo and Genevieve retrieving the first snake, but Colby and Stephanie make up a lot of time with the second snake. Eventually, all three tribes get started on the snake track at the same time. Vatu stays steady while Kalo and Cila drop their ball. Vatu wins immunity! One more tribe will win, and Kalo lands their ball before Cila does. Kalo wins immunity! Cila will return to tribal council tonight.
Rick says tonight’s tribal is complicated. There was a consensus for Jenna last time, but Ozzy, Savannah, and Joe are on the chopping block. Emily tells Cirie she would rather vote out Ozzy. Unbeknownst to her, Ozzy is Cirie’s closest ally. Therefore, Cirie pushes for Savannah to be voted out tonight instead. She gives her reasons to Emily, Rick, and Christian, and she manages to get them all on board with voting out Savannah tonight. Later, Cirie tells Ozzy she may have saved him tonight. As a thank you, Ozzy decides to give Cirie his extra vote advantage.
Later, Joe asks Savannah about Rick’s whisper to her. Savannah says that there was a discussion about an alliance with the two of them, Ozzy, and Rick. Joe realizes Rick wasn’t being honest, so Joe confronts Rick later. Joe doesn’t understand why he lied when a possible alliance is supposed to be a good thing. Joe is unsure if Rick is someone he can trust. Rick is fed up with Joe’s style of gameplay, and he walks away before the conversation ends. Joe asks Christian his thoughts, and Christian admits he’s hesitant to tell anything to Joe. Joe assures Christian that he is a straight shooter. Meanwhile, Rick tells Cirie and Ozzy that everything blew up with Joe earlier. Later Cirie tells Emily and Savannah that the three of them and Ozzy can vote out Joe tonight. Savannah and Emily notice how Cirie is doing a lot to save Ozzy. They admit they would rather see Ozzy voted out tonight. In her confessional, Emily says she could see herself voting for either Joe, Savannah, or Ozzy tonight. Before tribal council, Christian tells Rick about the Boomerang Idol. Rick gets an idea to plant a fake idol at tribal council.
It’s time for tribal council. Joe tells Jeff about his argument with Rick. Rick says he and Joe can both be stubborn, which led to conflict. Joe says he owns it, and they can move on. Cirie says the only thing they can do is trust their gut. Ozzy says they have to go through all the different information they get and deal with all the uncertainties. Savannah admits she notices the different styles of gameplays and personalities, but she wasn’t expecting to connect with people. She’s gets emotional talking about her previous season. She first had a wall up, but she learned to be vulnerable around people. She hopes people will want to get to know her and work with her. Jeff asks how to decide whom to vote out, and Christian says they need to be a solid unit to work together. Afterwards, it’s time for the vote.
Jeff reads the votes. The first vote is for…
Savannah
Ozzy
Savannah
Savannah
Savannah
Savannah is the third person voted out of Survivor 50. She’s emotional as she thanks Jeff for the opportunity and gets her torch snuffed for the first time. Before the tribe returns to camp, Rick plants a fake advantage at tribal council while Christian pretends to fall to distract everyone else. And that wraps up tonight’s episode of Survivor 50.
