Survivor Season 48 Week 9 Recap and Live Blog

A new episode of Survivor airs tonight on CBS. Read a live recap here.

The tribe returns to camp after tribal council. Shauhin doesn’t understand why Chrissy wrote his name down after calling out David, Joe, and Eva. David tries to do damage control with Kamilla, but she doesn’t buy it. She calls him “a complete idiot” in her confessional. In his confessional, David admits he thinks Kamilla is a bigger threat than Chrissy. He also noticed Kyle’s hesitancy in voting out Kamilla. He says it scares him, and he wants to figure it out.

The next morning, Eva says it’s a better vibe around camp without Chrissy. She doesn’t care who goes home next as long as it’s not one of her allies (Joe, David, Mary, Shauhin, and Kyle). They discuss their next target: Mitch or Kamilla. David and Mary push for Kamilla, but Kyle is secretly not on board. In his confessional, Kyle says he’s been playing the middle. He talks to Shauhin alone later, and he throws David under the bus. He says David and Mary don’t trust him due to his closeness to Kamilla. Kyle and Shauhin want to try to get rid of Mary.

Meanwhile, David can already tell that Kyle and Shauhin are ready to flip. David and Mary warn Eva, but Eva thinks they’re just being paranoid. Eva believes she can trust everyone in their alliance. She wants everybody to still be on the same page too. However, there’s definitely tension between David and Kyle.

Later in the evening, Eva sneaks out of camp to retrieve her advantage. She’s following the instructions she got from the clue she found after yesterday’s challenge. Eva tries to be stealthy, but Shauhin notices she left camp. He correctly deduces that Eva is going for an advantage. Shauhin wakes Joe up, and he tells her that she’s gone. Joe is unconcerned since he trusts Eva.

Eva follows a path to a table. She has won an extra vote. However, she can risk it to win a stronger advantage: Safety Without Power. She must pick between two bamboo scrolls. If she’s wrong, then she loses her vote. Eva decides to risk her vote. She picks correctly and wins Safety Without Power. Eva is presented with the option to risk her newly won advantage. She must choose one of three bamboo scrolls. If she’s right, then she will win an immunity idol. Eva chooses not to go for it. She keeps her Safety Without Power advantage.

The next morning, Eva tells Joe, Shauhin, and Kyle about her advantage. Later, Kyle catches Kamilla up on what’s going on. He lets her know that David and Mary want her gone. He also shares that Eva has won a Safety Without Power advantage. Meanwhile, David is still concerned about Kyle and Shauhin. He shares this with Joe and Eva. He thinks Kyle and Shauhin have a secret alliance with Kamilla. Joe still believes he can trust Kyle and Shauhin. David says that Joe also went back on his word by switching his vote to Chrissy. This statement bothers Joe. He is adamant that he never went back on his word. Joe is now unsure if he can trust David.

After Joe and Kyle have a heart-to-heart conversation, Joe is having doubts about working with David moving forward. He wants to talk to Eva about it. Joe says the mistrust isn’t working for the group. He asks for her thoughts. Eva admits that David and Mary are paranoid, but she doesn’t want it to make the group fall apart. She thinks it will be open warfare if they don’t trust each other. Eva says they have to remain calm.

It’s time for the immunity challenge. It’s an endurance challenge. They each must grasp onto a handle that is holding a ball against a beam above their heads. If the ball drops, then they are out of the challenge. The last person standing wins immunity. The winner will also win ham and cheese wraps, soft drinks, and desserts. The challenge begins, and Star drops her ball almost right away. Mary is the next person to drop her ball. She is followed by Kamilla and Mitch. Eva is the next one to drop her ball. Shauhin drops his ball afterwards. David, Joe, and Kyle are the only ones remaining in the challenge. Kyle stepped off his platform, eliminating him from the challenge. Joe almost dropped his ball, but he recovers. David tells Joe he will pick him for reward if he wins. The challenge continues, but then David hesitates. David accidentally steps off his platform. Joe wins immunity! Joe is allowed to someone to bring with him to reward. He picks Mitch. Jeff tells Joe to pick another person. Joe picks Shauhin. Jeff tells Joe to pick one more person. He picks Eva.

The tribe returns to camp. David is feeling down about losing the immunity challenge. He feels like he should’ve won the challenge. David and Mary talk game later, and they believe the others are planning something against them. They say they should throw votes on Mitch to save themselves. They also talk to Star about the vote. Star wants to vote out Shauhin, but Mary and David are concerned Shauhin has a hidden immunity idol. Star says she’ll be on board to vote out Mitch.

Meanwhile on the reward, Mitch tells Joe, Eva, and Shauhin that he wants to vote out David tonight. Shauhin wants David gone too, but he doesn’t want to push too hard. The people from the reward return to camp. Eva talks to David and Mary, and Eva notices how paranoid David and Mary are. Later, Kyle tells Eva that he wants to vote out David tonight, and Eva says this makes her heart sink. Eva wants to talk to Joe about voting for David first. The two of them talk, and Joe says he will go with whatever Eva wants to do. Eva is torn between voting for David or Mitch. Eva believes she can trust David and Mary, and she wants to stay true to the team. However, she is nervous about all the paranoia and tension they are causing within the alliance.

It’s time for tribal council. Jeff asks what’s different about this stage of the game. Shauhin says it’s easier to make emotional connections, which causes alliances to shift. Joe says they need to know their strengths and weaknesses socially. Star says you’re looking for cracks to see who flips and switches sides. Eva says she feels solid and won’t be swayed. Eva is locked in to what he wants to do. David says he was public about his alliance. He says everybody knows where everybody stands. Shauhin says people can take advantage of that. Mary says it’s great when you strike first, but what if you strike if the other person was never going to strike? David thinks there is a path to win by being honest. He wants to take that risk. Kamilla says he needs to keep the jury in mind. They might not respect the game David is playing. Mitch thinks the game is constantly changing. You have to continue to build relationships. Kyle says they are in a “don’t screw it up” mindset with the end in sight. Jeff asks how camp was like before the vote. Shauhin says it was calm, which could be terrifying. Joe says they can only control so much. Finally, it’s time to vote.

We see David vote for Mitch, and we see Mitch vote for David. But who will be voted out?

Jeff reads the votes.

The first vote is for…

Mitch

David

Mitch

David

Mitch

David

David

David

David is the tenth person voted out and the third member of the jury. David and Mary are visibly blindsided before David gets his torch snuffed and walks out of tribal council.

And that wraps up tonight’s episode of Survivor. Thanks for reading, and come back next week for another live recap.
