Survivor 37 David vs Goliath Week 9 Recap and Live Blog

A new episode of Survivor: David vs. Goliath airs tonight on CBS. Read a live recap and join the discussion here.

After tribal council, the Davids are celebrating the fact that John was voted out. Alison, Alec, and Kara sit together and wonder about the Davids having an advantage. Alison admits in her confessional that she took the conservative approach in siding with the Goliaths, but she says it didn’t work out for her. She’s concerned about the Davids having a secret advantage, and she doesn’t know where her loyalties should lie. Alec says in his confessional that he and Alison were contemplating making a move against the Goliaths, but Mike held them back from flipping. Meanwhile, Dan feels like he’s being taken for granted since no one has pulled him aside to chat after tribal council. He vents his frustrations to Kara later, and she tells him that he should’ve just joined them instead of sitting alone. The discussion gets somewhat tense, and Kara tearfully says in a confessional that she needs to separate herself from Dan.

It’s time for the reward challenge. They will be divided into two teams of five. They will have to go through a series of obstacles, retrieve bags of puzzle pieces, and solve a puzzle. The winning team will win a burger reward. They are randomly assigned teams, and on the Purple Team are Angelina, Christian, Alison, Gabby, and Nick and on the Orange Team are Mike, Davie, Dan, Alec, and Kara. Carl was not chosen after the random draw, so he will be sitting out with no chance at winning reward. The challenge begins, and they all manage to retrieve the bags. At the station when they must solve a lock combination, Mike and Christian are working on it for their respective teams. Mike solves it first, but Alison spots the correct answer before the Orange Team could cover it up. She tells Christian the right answer, and the challenge remains fairly even when both teams are solving the puzzle. The Orange Team solves the puzzle first. Mike, Davie, Dan, Alec, and Kara win reward!

After the challenge, Gabby is trying to sway Alison to vote out Dan. Alison agrees that it would be a big move, but she admits in her confessional that she is still torn. Meanwhile, during the burger reward, Mike is trying to keep the Goliaths strong; he does not want them to turn against each other. He tells this to Dan, Kara, and Alec, but Kara thinks Dan is a liability. She wants to vote out Dan.  After the reward, she reveals Dan’s secret to Alec and Alison that Dan has another immunity idol. They want to blindside him at the upcoming tribal council.

Early in the morning, the Davids wake up very early to search for another advantage or hidden immunity idol. Once it was breakfast time, everyone gives up except for Christian. He keeps looking for an advantage, and he eventually stumbles upon a a coconut shell with blue yarn up in a tree. Christian has found a hidden immunity idol.

It’s time for the immunity challenge. They must collect three balls while going back and forth on a teeter totter. They must balance the balls on discs as they cross the teeter totter.  Lastly, they must maneuver the three balls into slots on a table track in the shape of a snake. The first to complete the challenge wins immunity. The challenge begins, and Alec and Dan take the early lead. They’re also the first two to try landing the balls on the track, but they’re soon joined by Kara, Carl, and Angelina. Dan keeps a lead as Alec keeps dropping his balls. However, Alec takes the lead away from Dan when he’s the first to land his second ball. Alec also lands his third ball. Alec wins immunity!

The tribe return to camp after the challenge. In her confessional, Kara says she’s ready to make a move against Dan. She hopes he won’t take it too personally, but she believes this is the move that she needs to make. As Kara is putting the plan into motion, Alison is having second thoughts. She thinks they should probably stay Goliath strong, and Alec agrees with her when she shares her thoughts with him. They contemplate voting out Christian tonight instead. They later tell Kara that they maybe should vote out Christian tonight, and now she’s uneasy about the plan likely changing. Later, Nick notices all the Goliaths sitting together, and he realizes that an alliance with both Davids and Goliaths might not work. All the Davids sit together, and Nick, Christian, and Carl reveal their advantages (Nick can steal a vote, Christian has an idol, and Carl can nullify an idol). They’re all giddy about having these advantages; they are confident they will come out on top at tribal council tonight.

It’s time for tribal council. Jeff asks Alison about the reaction to the previous tribal council. She says it was a wake up call. Gabby was amused by the last tribal council and she’s glad the Goliaths didn’t get their way. Christian points out that the Goliaths still have one more number, and Jeff asks if the game is still David vs Goliath. They all agree that it is, and Dan says he’d rather work with the enemy he knows than the enemy he does not. Mike wants the Goliaths to stay united, but Alec says there are blurred lines and a lot of factors come into play. Gabby says that the Golitahs should use them to not be on the bottom of the Goliaths. Dan points out that then they would be on the bottom of the Davids. Christian says Davids were the ones to open the line of communication with the Goliaths, but the Goliaths slammed the door to their faces. There was an agreement to vote out a Goliath after Elizabeth left, but the Golaiths ended up lying to them since they didn’t vote for Angelina. Carl says trust must be proven, and Alec agrees with that. Alec says there are so many things to think about. Nick believes the Goliaths have no interest working with the Davids, and he’s ready for the game to blow up. Before they vote, Nick plays his secret vote steal advantage. Nick steals Alison’s vote. Nick will vote twice and Alison will not vote at all.

Before Jeff reads the votes, Dan plays his hidden immunity idol for himself. However, Jeff pulls an item from the voting urn and reveals that the advantage to nullify an idol was played on Dan. Dan’s hidden immunity idol no longer has any power, and any votes cast against him will count.

Jeff reads the votes. The first vote is for…
