Amid controversy, with NBC and Univision cutting ties with Donald Trump after disparaging remarks he made about immigrants, The Miss USA Pageant was held Sunday night in Baton Rouge, LA. Miss Oklahoma, Olivia Jordan, took the crown.
Nearly all of the talent dropped out of the show after NBC declined to broadcast the event, which ended up airing live on the Reelz channel and streamed live via the Miss USA organization. The talent Miss USA managed to put together at the last minute included a few singing show alums and former boy bander.
Also, there was a diversity segment which attempted some Donald Trump damage control, featuring a montage of different contestants talking about their backgrounds. Host Alex Wehrley introduced the segment: “Just like the United States, the Miss USA competition is truly multi-cultural. Many of the contestants are first-generation Americans whose parents come from all around the world.”
Here are a few clips from the event, featuring American Idol season 10 alum, Stefano Langone, Travis Garland, late of the boyband NLT and The Voice alum, Adley Stump.
The musical guests performed during the various competition segments, such as the evening gown and swimsuit rounds.
Here’s Stefano crooning Stevie Wonder’s “She’s a Mama Jama” as the contestants dance around him with umbrellas.
Here, Adley Stump and Stefano sing during the Evening Gown competition. She sang “Little Black Dress.” Stefano performed Bruno Mars’ “Just the Way You Are.” Notice the hilarious camera mishap. Yeah, this production was thrown together quickly and on the cheap.
In this clip, Stefano sings Pitbull’s “Fun” during the swim suit competition. The host extolling the strutting girls as a+ intellects is an amusing bit of cognitive dissonance. Travis Garland joins Stefano later to sing “Want to Want Me,” by Jason Derulo. Hm.
So…that was the Miss USA pageant. At least the women competing in the pageant got a little bit of exposure.
