Songland Spoiler: Brandin Jay Sings “No Money Alright” (VIDEO)

This week on Songland, four more hopeful songwriters pen tunes for pop singer Meghan Trainor. Check out a preview of Brandin Jay performing his original song “No Money Alright” below.

“My dreams are literally…literally coming true right now,” says an emotion Brandin after finishing his performance. “I’ve been doing this for so long, and I’ve never been able to get into the right room.” he adds, “To be here, and sing a song for people that I’ve looked up to for years, it so so on time.”

Panelist Ester Dean says she’s been in a lot of room and heard a lot of nos, but it was finally one yes that brought her to Jimmy Iovine.” Meghan adds, “You were born to do this.” Meghan thinks Ryan Tedder could “crush this beat” and “make it dirty and make it more modern.” Additionally, Meghan suggests improving the chorus, but “in a fun way.”

Shane McAnally adds: “When you double that chorus and you’re going out, it’d be cool if one of those money lines changed.” Ryan makes lyric suggestions that make the song more personal to Meghan. As the panel continues to tweak the song, Brandin couldn’t be more excited. “Ester, you are my spirit animal,” he gushes.

Thirty year old Brandin is a singer/songwriter, actor, director, playwright, and choreographer, according to his Facebook bio. He’s also been featured in the movies Welcome Home Roscoe Jenkins and Disney’s Let It Shine. He attended a performing arts school in Atlanta and also attended Berklee in Boston. Here’s a clip of Brandin on the BET series Reed Between the Lines with Malcolm Jamal Warner. He also did a commercial with Shaq. His latest single is titled “Winning.”
