Simon Cowell Is A Very Strange Guy

This new profile of Simon Cowell from GQ reveals some of Simon Cowell’s very strange habits. Although he still smokes, at 51, he’s obsessed with his health and living as long as he can. In fact, he admits he wants to have his body frozen after he dies “just in case”

Some of the weirder stuff:

  • His breakfast for the past 5 years:  “Hot water with lemon. Then papaya juice with lime.  Then oatmeal. Then tea. Then three different smoothies—a spinach smoothie, an antioxidant smoothie, and a super smoothie with seven fruits. “I love to wake up in a good mood and look forward to what’s coming, ” he says. “As soon as that tray is put in front of me, I can’t wait to have it. I like looking forward to things.”
  • Each morning—as he breakfasts, has his morning bath, and prepares for the workday ahead—Cowell watches cartoons. Old cartoons. His favorites tend to be from the golden age of Hanna-Barbera. “It just puts me in a good mood, ” he explains. “It’s less depressing than watching the news, which is just relentless. You’ve got to try it one morning. You’ll be happy for the rest of the day.” (actually, I don’t find this one so weird…I love cartoons!)
  • Each week, Cowell has an intravenous drip with B12, magnesium, vitamin C, and, he says, “something for your liver.” When he was a child, he was so scared of needles that he once ran down a Spanish beach to escape a doctor trying to treat his ear infection. No longer.
  • Rhu rho. Simon and Mezhgan Hussainy are probably notgoing to get married, “Are you still as enthusiastic about the idea of marriage?  There has been nothing I have asked him until now, however nosy or impertinent, that has shown the slightest sign of ruffling him. But now he has a completely different look on his face, as though he doesn’t know what to say or where to go with this. Or is that a tricky one? “Yeah. Let’s just leave that one.”And it’s clear he means this more than almost anything else he tells me.

Simon also talks about Idol and how B-O-R-E-D he was after the first 2 or 3 years, why Sid Vicious’s version of “My Way” is his favorite punk song, and why he’s such a success with the “average joe”.

Simon is driven, eccentric, and seems kind of lonely…
