Ryan Seacrest Returns to Live, Arthur Gunn Cancels

On Live with Kelly and Ryan this morning, one person made it to the show, and another didn’t. Specifically, Ryan Seacrest returned to his place next to co-host Kelly Ripa after taking off a day to rest after a hectic week. However, scheduled guest, American Idol runner-up Arthur Gunn cancelled his appearance. Blame it all on exhaustion! Or a sore throat.

Ryan Seacrest Returns to Live After Absence due to “Exhaustion”

After seeming out of sorts during the live portions of Sunday’s (May 17) American Idol finale, and being absent from Monday’s Live with Kelly and Ryan, the host returned to work on Tuesday morning, all bright eyed and bushy tailed. He only referenced his absence briefly at the top of the show, thanking everybody for their “kind well wishes for my exhaustion” adding that he’s been “working around the clock. So, I got a day off to relax.”

Social media was all abuzz after Sunday night’s American Idol finale. When the show went live to reveal the winner, the typically unflappable host, Ryan Seacrest, seemed confused and off his game as he announced the Top 2 contestants, Arthur Gunn and Just Sam.

Even after Ryan pulled together to announce Just Sam the winner, Fans began heated speculation on social media anyway, wondering if Seacrest had some neurological event, like a stroke. And when he skipped on Live the next day–Kelly’s husband Mark Consuelo subbed in–fans freaked out.

But all was well, said Ryan’s spokesperson to People magazine on Monday.

“Ryan did not have any kind of stroke last night. Like many people right now, Ryan is adjusting to the new normal and finding work-home balance, with the added stress of having to put on live shows from home.”

“Between Live with Kelly and Ryan, American Idol, On Air with Ryan Seacrest, and the Disney Family Singalong specials, he has been juggling three to four on-air jobs over the last few weeks and he’s in need of rest,” adds the rep. “So today he took a well-deserved day off.”

American Idol Runner-up Arthur Gunn Canceled Kelly and Ryan Appearance

Speaking of the American Idol Top 2. Runner up Arthur Gunn was schedule to appear on Live on Tuesday (May 19), but had to cancel. He posted on social media that due to a sore throat, he was on vocal rest and had to cancel Live:

Sun Rise! This morning i was scheduled for the interview with @livekellyandryan. Due to circumstances, I won’t be able to attend the interview. After the celebration on being Runner Up on the @americanidol, i’m having sore throat. Maybe cause of screaming in joy. So, i’m on vocal rest. Over all i’m doing great, hope you all are doing good out there. I will catch you all later!!!

Get well soon, Arthur!

Fun fact: Last year’s runner-up Alejandro Aranda aka Scarypoolparty also canceled his Live appearance, but for more dramatic reasons. He boarded the private jet with winner Laine Hardy, ready to fly overnight to New York City for the media tour. But he suddenly disembarked due to his fear of flying! He never did make it back to NYC to appear on the show.
