Rayvon Owen Covers “Jealous” By Labrinth, Talks Tour (VIDEO)

It’s pretty cool that TPTB at American Idol are loosening the reigns on the contestants and allowing them to drop videos before their contracts finish at the end of the summer. The latest is from Rayvon Owen, who is getting ready for the American Idol Live tour with the rest of the Top 5.

He covers the song “Jealous” by Labrinth, a’cappella, with a choir, and it’s gorgeous. The church setting sets a solemn tone for the mournful, heartbreaking tune, and I’ll bet the acoustics were just perfect there.

With his vocal front and center, Rayvon has the opportunity to show off his gorgeous falsetto. Along with runner-up, Clark Beckham’s recent videos, it’s becoming clear this talented bunch was performing on Idol under less than ideal circumstances.

“Labrinth is very well-known in the United Kingdom, and he is such an amazing artist,” Rayvon told Digital Journal in a recent interview, “That was one of the covers that I wanted to perform on the show, but I never got a chance. It is such a heart-wrenching song and something that I went through, emotionally. I just wanted to use my voice to show the beauty of the lyrics, and I wanted simple videography that captured what the song was saying.”

These videos are also great promotion for the 2015 American Idol Live tour, which begins in Clearwater on Tuesday, July 7.

“We are in rehearsals right now, and we are getting everything in place. It is going really well,” Ravon noted about the tour, “It is a lot of work and it is a lot to learn, since we are signing our lead songs, group songs and we are singing back-up for one another, but so far, so good. We are having such a good time.”

“It is in a more intimate setting, and you get to really know us and we get to tell our stories. It has a different vibe,” Rayvon added. “There will be a lot of different dynamics since each of us are different. We all get to have our moments. All together, it is going to be a phenomenal show.”

As far as what Rayvon will sing on tour. This photo of the singer looking over sheet music of Ellie Goulding’s “Love Me Like You Do” could be a clue.
